Softball Drops Day Three of Play in Florida

FLORIDA - The Ohio Dominican Panthers returned to action in Florida last night, facing Shepherd University and Minnesota State Mankato after a day off on Sunday. The Panthers fell in both matchups, losing 3-0 to Shepherd and 7-1 to Minnesota State Mankato.

Game One Against Shepherd (L, 3-0)

In the first game, freshman Emma Grau took the mound, pitching five innings while allowing six hits, three runs, and three walks. Junior Marlee Jacobs entered in relief for the final inning. 

Shepherd got on the board early when Lexi Clatterbuck launched a home run to center field, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. In the third inning, they extended their advantage with an RBI single to center that brought Brenna Collis home, followed by a sacrifice bunt from Haylee Hartman that allowed Camdyn Noland to score, securing Shepherd's second win of the season. 

Offensively, the Panthers struggled, managing just one hit from Liana Morreale. 

Game Two Against Minnesota State Mankato (L, 7-1)

The Panthers faced off against the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks for their second game of the day. Freshman Amelia Spidell started in the circle for the Panthers, pitching six innings while allowing five hits, five runs, and two walks. Junior Marlee Jacobs took over for the final inning, conceding three hits, two runs, and one walk. 

The Mavericks opened the scoring in the second inning, putting three runs on the board. Izzy Hycnar contributed with an RBI triple to bring in Gianna Lara, followed by a sacrifice RBI from Sailor Hall that allowed Hycnar to score. The final run of the inning came when Ryanne Mellum crossed home plate on an unearned run. 

Minnesota State Mankato extended their lead in the fifth inning when Gianna Lara's RBI double brought home Ireland Broderick, making it a 4-0 game. 

The Panthers managed their lone run when Halina Schulte scored on a wild pitch. However, the Mavericks secured their victory with three additional runs in the seventh inning, including an unearned run and RBIs from Gianna Lara and Izzy Hycnar, sealing a 7-1 win.

Up Next
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday to take on Winona State and Indiana (PA.) for their fourth day in the Sunshine State.
