Women's Basketball Tops Northwood With Seconds Left, 71-69

MIDLAND, MI - The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team traveled north to take on the Northwood Timberwolves in a crucial G-MAC rematch. The Panthers secured a thrilling victory, with Sarah Ochs sinking a layup with 4 seconds remaining to seal the win.

Brynn Mullet led the way for Ohio Dominican, scoring 23 points, grabbing six rebounds, and recording three steals in 38 minutes of play. Gabby Stare contributed 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a block.

Sarah Ochs added 9 points, three assists, and six rebounds in 36 minutes, while Logan Pride chipped in eight points, particularly in the paint, to help secure the win.

Northwood started strong, shooting better than Ohio Dominican, making 7 of 15 shots (46.67%) from the field and 28.57% from three-point range. The Panthers shot 38.89% from the field, hitting 7 of 18 shots, and were efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 3 of 6 (50%). After the first quarter, the score was tied 19-19.

In the second quarter, both teams struggled offensively. Northwood held Ohio Dominican to just 9 points while scoring 11 themselves. The Panthers shot 30.77% from the field, while the Timberwolves shot 23.53%. Both teams shot poorly from the free-throw line, with ODU making just 50% of their attempts and Northwood hitting 75%. At halftime, Northwood led 30-28.

Ohio Dominican came out stronger in the third quarter, shooting 35.29% (6 of 17), while Northwood shot 46.15% (6 of 13). Despite being outshot, the Panthers held Northwood to 15 points while scoring 17, bringing a 45-45 score into the final period.

The fourth quarter started with the game tied at 45-45. Both teams fought hard, with Ohio Dominican shooting 61.54% (8 of 13) from the field, while Northwood hit 53.85% (7 of 13). Free throws became crucial, with Northwood making 10 of 10, while ODU shot 7 of 10 (70%).

With 7 seconds left, Northwood tied the game with a basket, but the Panthers had time for a final play. Sarah Ochs drove to the basket, scoring the game-winning layup with just seconds remaining, securing a 71-69 victory.

This victory improves Ohio Dominican's record to 10-12, with a 5-9 mark in G-MAC play. Next week, they will travel to Findlay to face the Oilers at Niekamp Arena on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
