COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (9-13, 5-9 G-MAC) men's basketball team battled the Walsh Cavaliers (7-13, 3-11 G-MAC) at Alumni Hall on Saturday (Feb. 8) afternoon.
With nine lead changes and six ties, the game was back-and-forth for all 40 minutes - coming down to the final buzzer. The final lead change came with all zeroes on the clock as
Brady Moore nailed a three pointer from the wing to give the Panthers a 77-76 win. This win over Walsh snapped a 11-game slide at the hands of the Cavaliers.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton scored 30 points for the second time this season - leading all scorers in the game. Hinton was 13-of-21 from the floor with three triples, eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
- Brady Moore, in his second start this season, scored 15 points on six field goals (three three pointers), also with two assists, two steals and a block.
- Derek Goodman tallied 13 points, five assists and four rebounds in 34 minutes of action. The freshman was four-of-seven shooting, making three threes and both free throw attempts.
- Antonio Carter had a stat line of six points, three steals, two assists and one rebound off the bench.
- Terrance Broughton returned to the starting lineup with seven points and five assists.
- Zac Kimball made his one shot attempt with five rebounds and a pair of assists and steals.
- Ohio Dominican shot 48.4% from the floor in the game, converting 31-of-64 attempts.
- Walsh made 27-of-59 shots for a 45.8% field goal percentage.
- Both teams took 27 three point attempts with ODU winning that battle 10-9.
- Walsh hit 13-of-14 free throws in the game as ODU was five-of-eight.
- The Cavaliers out-rebounded the Panthers with 38 boards to 29 for the Panthers.
- Ohio Dominican had 20 assists with 11 steals in the game.
- Walsh's leading scorer was Zack Oddo with 20 points and eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Walsh started the game with a deep three pointer as they scored five of the first seven points, leading 5-2 two minutes in.
- Goodman scored five straight points with Hinton adding four more as ODU went on a 9-0 run to take a 11-5 lead nearing the five minute mark.
- The Cavaliers answered with a 10-4 rally, tying the game at 15 with just over ten minutes left in the first half. Walsh got the lead to four points three different times (19-15, 21-17 and 23-19).
- Five consecutive ODU points got the Panthers back in front 24-23 for a brief second as Walsh went on an 11-2 run, including three triples in a row. The lead ballooned to 34-26 with 4:40 to go in the first half.
- ODU closed the first half with a three-point barrage of their own, hitting a trio as they ended the first half on a 11-4 run to trail 38-37 at the break.
- Hinton, Broughton and Moore each had a three during the run.
- A three-point play right out of the gate for Walsh pushed the lead back to four points (41-37) but back-to-back baskets from Hinton and Kimball tied the game at 41.
- Walsh took a step ahead of ODU twice before opening a five-point lead (48-43 and 51-46) twice surrounding the under-16 media timeout.
- Ohio Dominican got the lead down to one possession after Walsh opened a seven-point lead at 56-49.
- Carter scored four straight points to get the lead down to 56-53 but Walsh got the advantage back to 60-53 before ODU made a final run.
- A 10-0 Panther rally erased the lead and got the lead back for ODU at 61-60 before pushing it to 63-60 with 7:51 left.
- Moore made the three pointer to give ODU the lead at the time.
- The Panthers elevated the lead to as many as five points (67-62) but Walsh matched every blow from the Panthers.
- After Walsh tied the game at 72 with 1:36 to go on a three pointer by Matthew Biddell, Hinton gave the Panthers a 74-72 lead with 1:08 left on a layup.
- Two free throws by Quintero Barnett with 41 seconds left allowed Walsh to tie the contest up one more time at 74.
- Ohio Dominican had a chance to take the lead in the closing seconds but a Broughton three pointer was off the mark. Kimball got the offensive rebound but his return pass was intercepted by Biddell, who scored with six seconds left to go.
- Trailing 76-74, the Panthers got the ball to Moore, who nailed the game-winner with no time remaining to send the Alumni Hall crowd into a frenzy.
