COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (9-16, 5-12 G-MAC) men's basketball team returned to action on Thursday (Feb. 20), hosting the Thomas More Saints (17-8, 12-6 G-MAC) at Alumni Hall.
The Panthers battled throughout the second half to get close with the Saints but Thomas More held off Ohio Dominican 75-67.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Derek Goodman scored a team-high 21 points, including a game-high six three pointers. The freshman was seven-of-11 overall and six-of-nine behind the arc.
- Terrance Broughton made four three pointers in an 13-point effort with five assists and two steals.
- Elijah Hinton tied Broughton with 13 points scored but led the Panthers with eight rebounds. Hinton converted six of his 11 field goal attempts.
- Jaylan Green came off the bench with nine points and five assists, making all three of his free throw attempts.
- Carson Seemann tallied two points and three rebounds in his 17 minutes off the bench.
- Tony Ezeonu finished with four points and two rebounds along with one steal.
- Ohio Dominican shot 44.2% from the floor in the game, making 23-of-52 field goals. Thomas More ended the night with a 50.0% field goal percentage, going 30-of-60 from the field.
- The Panthers made 11 threes, compared to Thomas More's seven. ODU was 10-of-15 at the free throw line while Thomas More converted eight-of-ten tries.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After ODU took a 3-2 lead 30 seconds in from a Goodman three, Thomas More rattled off a 9-0 run as a part of a 14-2 spurt as the Saints led 16-5 with 14 minutes left in the first half.
- A pair of Panther threes fueled a 10-0 ODU run, trimming the lead to 16-15 near the under-12 media timeout.
- As ODU got close each time, Thomas More extended the lead with seven straight points. At the halfway point of the half, TMU was leading 23-15.
- Two Broughton three pointers pulled the Panthers to within two points (27-25 & 32-30) within the final five minutes.
- Thomas More ended the half on an 11-1 run, taking a 43-31 lead into halftime.
- Before the under-16 media timeout, ODU narrowed the lead to six points (49-43) but Thomas More kept the Panthers at arms length.
- With 12:40 left, Goodman hit another triple as the Panthers trailed 51-48. Thomas More responded and got the lead into double digits before the under-eight timeout.
- Green converted a three-point play with 3:45 left, cutting the lead down to 65-61 - all part of a 7-0 run. Green made a pair of free throws with 1:37 to go as the lead with 67-64.
- The Saints scored six straight points to distance themselves one last time, winning 75-67.
