NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (5-2, 2-0) men's basketball team
got an impressive win on the road on Saturday (Dec. 6) afternoon as they took down the previously unbeaten Walsh Cavaliers (6-1, 1-1) at Alumni Arena.
The Panthers now have a five-game winning streak - the longest win streak since the end of the 2017-18 season when ODU won eight straight games. In the win, ODU got their first win in North Canton in over 21 years (Feb. 19, 2004).
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Five different Panthers were in double figures.
- Terrance Broughton led all scorers with 15 points on a six-of-ten shooting day, making three of his five three pointers.
- Carson Seemann scored 13 points, making five-of-six field goals. He made his two three point tries and his only free throw attempt. Seemann filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Elijah Hinton flirted with a near triple-double as he totaled nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
- Derek Goodman added 13 points on a trio of three pointers.
- Caleb Conard had 12 points and six rebounds with three assists.
- Brady Moore came off the bench with 11 points (five-of-seven shooting) and four assists.
- Ohio Dominican won the field goal shooting battle with a 55.9% (33-59) shooting day, 50% (10-20) from deep and a perfect seven-of-seven at the free throw line.
- Walsh shot 44.6% (25-56) overall, 21.1% (4-19) from deep and 83.3% (10-12).
- The Panthers outrebounded the Cavaliers 34-24 and tied a season-high in assists (21).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the game was tied 2-2 less than two minutes in, Walsh used an 11-2 run for a 13-4 lead five minutes in. ODU cut the lead to six points twice (15-9 & 17-11) but Walsh pulled away for a 12-point lead (23-11 & 25-13) at the halfway point of the first half.
- Over eight minutes, Ohio Dominican went on a 19-7 run to tie the game at 32. Overall, the Panthers ended the first half on a 23-9 run to lead 36-34 at the break.
- Walsh scored the first four points of the second half for a 38-36 lead but the Panthers used an 8-0 spurt as a part of a 13-2 rally for a 49-40 lead at the under-16 media timeout.
- The Cavaliers got the lead to two, 51-49 but the Panthers bounced back and closed the game with pushing the lead to double-digits in the final five minutes.
- Overall, the Panthers outscored the Cavaliers 47-30 in the second half.
