Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight Contest

COLUMBUS, Ohio-  The Ohio Dominican Panthers (6-8, 2-4 G-MAC) men's basketball team strung together their third straight win as they avenged an early season loss to the Northwood Timberwolves (5-10, 1-6 G-MAC) on Thursday (Jan. 9) evening.

The Panthers battled back and dispatched the Timbies on a cold evening at Alumni Hall, 78-67. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • JeJuan Weatherspoon is now tied for the league lead with his sixth double-double of the season as he tallied 11 points and 15 rebounds. He was tied for the team lead with four free throws in the contest after three field goals (one three pointer). 
  • Brady Moore reached a career-best with 18 points off the bench in 32 minutes. He shot six-of-ten from the floor and nailed a trio of three pointers and free throws. Moore also had five rebounds as well. 
  • Antonio Carter added to the bench attack with 11 points in relief as he was tied for his season-best. Carter hit four-of-six field goals with one three and a pair of free throws. 
  • Elijah Hinton was in double figures for the sixth time this season with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals. Hinton was four-of-four at the free throw line. 
  • Terrance Broughton and Derek Goodman each scored eight points while Zac Kimball added seven points. 
  • Ohio Dominican hit 27-of-57 shots in the game, shooting 47.4% compared to Northwood's 44.2% (23-52) field goal percentage. 
    • ODU made at least ten threes for the sixth time this season and third straight contest. The Panthers converted 38.5% (ten-of-26) of deep shots while the Timberwolves were at 33.3% (8-24). 
  • The Panthers won the rebounding category 35-29 and forced Northwood into 15 turnovers leading to 20 points scored. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A pair of early Northwood threes allowed the visitors to open a 10-4 lead in the first four minutes. A pair of Panther threes and some key paint points helped on a 10-4 ODU run to tie the game at 14 with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half. 
  • In the next minute, Northwood pushed the lead to 19-14 with five straight points. The Panthers rallied back to tie the game at 19-19 before Northwood tied it at 23-23 and 26-26. After the game was tied at 26 with six minutes before halftime, ODU went on a 9-2 run for a nine-point lead (37-28) before Northwood closed the gap to 37-33 with five straight points before halftime. 
  • The Northwood run continued into the second half with a 6-2 run, tying the game at 39-39 three minutes into the second half. After a 41-41 tie 27 seconds later, Moore scored eight points on a 10-0 run that put ODU ahead 51-41 with 13:40 to go. 
  • That burst of scoring gave ODU the lead that they would not relinquish. Northwood got the lead down to eight points but the Panthers led by double-digits the final 9:18. The largest lead for the Panthers was 16 points (73-57 and 75-59). 
  • The Panthers held off the charging Timberwolves as they got the lead down to 11 points in the final minute. ODU won the game 78-67.
