COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (7-8, 3-4 G-MAC) men's basketball team pulled off a second half rally to notch a fourth straight victory on Saturday (Jan. 11) afternoon.
After trailing by 12 in the first half, the Panthers outscored the Malone Pioneers (6-9, 2-5 G-MAC) 46-26 in the second half for a 69-57 victory.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton had a game-high 26 point effort on 11-of-18 field goal shooting. Hinton added a pair of three pointers and free throws with his six rebounds.
- JeJuan Weatherspoon was the second Panther in double-digits with 17 points and had a team-high seven rebounds. The forward made six-of-eight field goals with a perfect four-of-four at the free throw line.
- Terrance Broughton scored nine points and added four rebounds and two steals.
- Zac Kimball put up five points with his five rebounds in 26 minutes.
- Jaylan Green came off the bench with eight points and four assists.
- Ohio Dominican shot 54.0% in the game with 27-of-50 on field goals.
- After shooting 47.6% in the first half, ODU bounced back with a 58.6% second half.
- Malone shot 32.8% (19-of-58) in the game with a 23.7% three point percentage (9-38).
- The Panthers held a 39-28 rebounding advantage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening five minutes, Malone came out with making six of their seven shots on a 16-5 run to force an ODU timeout.
- ODU responded with a 14-5 run over a ten miniute span, getting within two points (21-19) with five minutes left in the half.
- Hinton scored seven points in that span
- Malone pushed the lead to eight points twice before halftime as they led 31-23 at the break.
- ODU opened the second half with a 12-3 spurt, taking a 35-34 lead on a Weatherspoon three pointer with 14:25 left. The run continued to 15-3 and 9-0 as the Panthers led 38-34 with 12:09 remaining.
- After a pair of Malone free throws with 11 minutes left as ODU led 41-39, the Panthers outscored the Pioneers 28-18 for the rest of the game.
- Ohio Dominican got the lead up to as many as 15.
