CEDARVILLE, Ohio - For the first time in over a month, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (8-10, 4-6 G-MAC) men's basketball team competed outside of Alumni Hall as they traveled southwest to take on the Cedarville Yellow Jackets (8-9, 3-7 G-MAC) on Thursday (Jan. 23) night.
A first half and a solid performance by
Elijah Hinton allowed the Panthers to snap a short two-game slide with a 68-51 win over the Yellow Jackets. This was the Panthers' first win at Cedarville in over four years (January 5, 2021).
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton scored his 12th game in double figures, sixth game of at least 20 points and third double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Hinton was 13-of-21 from the floor with two three pointers and a free throw.
- Derek Goodman had 11 points for his seventh game in double digit scoring this season.
- Terrance Broughton finished with nine points, four assists and four steals with three rebounds over 33 minutes.
- Brady Moore had six points and six boards along with two assists.
- JeJuan Weatherspoon tallied three free throws, six rebounds and three steals.
- Jaylan Green scored his 1,000th career point with five points in the game.
- Zac Kimball added six rebounds on the night with one three pointer.
- Ohio Dominican outshot Cedarville shooting 43.1% with 28-of-65 field goals made, making six-of-19 threes.
- Cedarville finished with a 33.9% (19-56) field goal percentage despite making ten threes on 35 attempts.
- The Panthers won the rebounding battle 43-35 with 9-5 on the offensive glass.
- ODU scored 14 second chance points following offensive rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hinton scored four of the first seven points with a Kimball three, pushing ODU to a 7-2 lead four minutes into the game.
- Six straight Cedarville points gave the home team an 8-7 lead within two minutes.
- Hinton and Moore used a 4-0 run to lead 11-8 but a three pointer tied the game 11-11 with 13 minutes left in the first half.
- ODU went on a 15-0 run over an eight-minute span with Hinton scoring ten straight points at one point on the run. The Panthers led 26-11, the largest lead of the second half with 5:19 left.
- Cedarville got the lead down to nine points (28-19) but the Panthers led 31-19 at the intermission break.
- After an early layup by Broughton in the second half, the Yellow Jackets trimmed the lead to ten points (33-23) on a failed three-point play.
- The Panthers got on a 12-3 run as the lead got to 45-26 on back-to-back threes by Hinton and Goodman.
- Cedarville used an 8-0 run, trailing 45-34 with 11:21 left.
- The Panthers closed out the game, keeping the lead above 11 points the rest of the contest.
