COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team hosted G-MAC South rival Cedarville last night in Alumni Hall. The Panthers were bested by the Yellow Jackets, 3-1.
For the Black and Gold, outside hitter Ashley Chmielewski led the team offensively with 13 kills, behind her was right side hitter Ashley Aselage with 11.
Setter Saige Avery led the Panthers with 28 assists and two aces on the floor. Gabrielle Kirker led ODU defensively with 12 digs while adding on 18 assists.
How It Happened
Ohio Dominican jumped out early in the first set gaining a lead of 10-7. Throughout the set, the Panthers controlled the lead, winning 25-23.
In the second set, the Yellow Jackets responded with an aggressive attack at the net, out-hitting ODU, 18 kills to 11. Cedarville snagged the set, 25-21.
The third set started similar to the first set for Ohio Dominican, the Panthers ripped off 5 straight serves to take a 6-1 lead. But, as the set continued, the Yellow Jackets regained their offensive force, completing 19 kills to win the set, 25-22.
The last set opened up with another lead by Ohio Dominican, 7-1. With big blocks from Cedarville, they caught up to the Panthers. The set remained even with scoring back and forth but the Yellow Jackets took the lead late in the set, 23-21.
Ultimately, the Yellow Jackets took the last two points, winning the fourth set, 25-23.
