Women's Golf Ties School Record, Deibel Finishes Third

WASHINGTON, Mich. - The Ohio Dominican Panthers women's golf team took to the course in the Mitten State for their second tournament in as many weeks. Ohio Dominican battled a number of Michigan schools in the inaugural Warrior Invitational, hosted by Wayne State at The Orchards Golf Club on Monday (Sept. 23) and Tuesday (Sept. 24).

After starting the tournament in fourth place with a first round 322, ODU tied the school record with a 301 in round two. They jumped two places on day two, ending the event in 2nd place, ten strokes behind the champion Wayne State at 623. 

Senior Ellyn Deibel reset her career-lows once again with a third place finish. She shot a low round of 2-over 74 on day one and followed it up with a 5-over 77. Her 36-hole total was 151 (+7). 

Freshman Maria Briceno Vargas bounced back in a big way for the second round, notching a sixth place tie. She shot an 82 in round one and then scored a 1-over 73 in the second round. Briceno finished four strokes behind Deibel with a 155 (+11). 

Junior Caroline Tragesser was the third Panther in the top ten, finishing tied for ninth place. Tragesser battled back with a six-stroke gain on day two with a 3-over 75 following an 81 in her opening 18 holes. Her tournament total was 156 (+12). 

Senior Sydney Devore participated as an individual for the Panthers. Devore was tied for 20th with a 160 (+16). after scoring 79 and 81, respectively in her two rounds. 

Freshman Marissa Cline improved her 36-hole total by 13 strokes from her debut a week ago, totaling 165 (+21). Cline was tied for 26th and moved 16 spots on day two. She shot 89 on day one before a career-low 4-over 76 in the final round. 

Sophomore Alana Miller rounded out the Panthers lineup with a 36th place finish. Miller had rounds of 85 and 86 for a total of 171 (+27). 

The Panthers will play in the Findlay William Beall Fall Classic next week at Findlay Country Club.
