COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the season opener, the Ohio Dominican Panthers women's golf team hosted their annual Fall event at Champions Golf Course this week. ODU opened the 2024 Fall season with hosting a number of regional teams for 36 holes on Monday (Sept. 16) and Tuesday (Sept. 17).
Ohio Dominican finished seventh as a team as they scored 631 (+71) over two rounds. The Panthers shot 303 in round one, the second lowest round in program history. Round two saw the Panthers shoot 328.
Freshman
Maria Briceno Vargas was the top Panther with a tournament total of 149 (+9), tying for fifth overall. She became the ninth player in program history to shoot 71 (+1) in her first collegiate round and then followed it up with an 8-over 78 in round two. Briceno Vargas was second on the team with three birdies on her scorecard.
Junior
Caroline Tragesser has the second best outing as a Panther in a 13th place tie. She tied her lowest career score with a 2-over 72 with four birdies in the first round. Her second round total of 83 (+13) gave her an event total of 155 (+15).
Senior
Ellyn Deibel set her career-low for 36 holes with a 160 (+20), tying for 29th place. Deibel tied her lowest round with a 7-over 77 in the first 18 holes and finished the tourney with an 83 (+13).
Sophomore
Alana Miller was another Panther going low as she set career-bests for a single round and 36-holes. Miller had an 82 and 88, totaling her best tournament of 170 (+30). She finished tied for 61st place.
Senior
Sydney Devore was two spots behind Miller with a tournament total of 171 (+31) after shooting rounds of 83 and 88.
Junior
Meg Saffell totaled 174 (+34) with a first round of 88 and 86 in the second round. Saffell was four spots behind Devore in 67th place.
Junior
Sarah Ochs got her career-low round with an 84 in round one. She shot 93 in round two for a 36-hole total of 177 (+37), tied for 75th place.
Freshman teammates
Brooklyn Numbers and
Marissa Cline made their first collegiate appearances, both scoring 178 (+38) in 77th place. Numbers started the event with a 94 before shaving ten strokes off and scoring 84. Cline shared the same sentiment with an opening round 93 until cutting eight strokes and shooting 85 in the final round.
The Panthers will head to Washington, Michigan next week to compete in the Wayne State Warrior Invitational.
