COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the sixth year in a row, the Ohio Dominican softball team has made it to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament. The Black and Gold will travel to Akron, Ohio this year to play at Firestone Stadium. ODU will take on #6 Cedarville in the opening round.
About Ohio Dominican
The Panthers went 3-1 over the weekend with a split at Malone University and a sweep at Walsh University. The Black and Gold move to 33-11 overall and 19-7 in the G-MAC. They snagged the third seed in the tournament.
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) leads the team with a .387 batting average. Golden has 53 hits and 10 runs batted in. She has been walked 26 times and has a .485 on-base percentage. Following her is
Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) with a .385 batting average. Madden leads the team with 21 stolen bases and has 42 hits.
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) is third with a .372 batting average. The senior is first on the team with 54 hits, 19 doubles (first in the G-MAC), and 43 RBIs.
Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) has the second most doubles with 10. She adds five triples and two home runs.
In the circle,
Adison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) posts the best record for the Black and Gold with a 13-3 mark. The graduate has a 2.25 ERA and 57 strikeouts. She is currently two strikeouts away from 200 career strikeouts.
Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) has a 10-4 record on the rubber. Hammer has the second-best ERA in the G-MAC with a 1.24 and has 129 strikeouts. The graduate still leads the conference with seven saves.
About Cedarville
The #6 Yellow Jackets are 22-29 overall and 15-11 in the conference. They are coming off a 2-2 weekend after sweeping Kentucky Wesleyan and getting swept by Trevecca Nazarene.
Kaley Clark leads the way with a .325 batting average. The senior has totaled 51 hits including 11 doubles, four triples, and three home runs. Following her is Dana Bertke with a .299 average. Bertke has 20 stolen bases and 44 hits on the season.
On the rubber, Casey Bertke has a 14-10 record in 177.0 innings pitched. The senior has 122 strikeouts with a 2.14 ERA. Adaline Johnson has pitched 101.1 innings and posts a 4-14 overall record. Johnson has a 4.97 ERA and 84 strikeouts.
The Black and Gold are 11-6 against the Yellow Jackets with the Division II Era. Earlier this season, the two split the series with CU winning game one, 5-1, and ODU taking game two, 5-2. Last year, the two played in an elimination game during the G-MAC Tournament where the Panthers won, 3-2.
Potential Opponents
Joining these two in Akron is Trevecca Nazarene (41-11, 23-3) in first, followed by Hillsdale (34-12, 20-4) in second. Fourth place is Northwood (31-18, 17-9) with Findlay (30-18, 17-9) in fifth. Rounding out the tournament field is Tiffin (28-22, 14-12) in seventh and Malone (28-18, 13-13) in eighth.
