COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team opened their week with a regional game against Lewis University. The Panthers swept the Flyers, winning 5-4 and 2-0.
Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio) led the way with four hits, including a perfect 3-3 in game two. Thompson had a double and scored once.
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) followed with three hits on the day. Stevens added a double and had a team high of three runs batted in.
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) and
Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) added two hits. Golden walked twice and scored once with Walker scoring twice, hitting in two, and stealing a base.
Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) added two RBIs off her one hit.
In the circle,
Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) picked up a win and a save in two appearances today. Hammer pitched 8.1 innings including a complete game shutout. She gave up only four hits and had seven strikeouts.
Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) snagged a win in game one. Jacobs went 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs and six hits.
Game One
The Flyers got things started in the third inning. They plated one off a hit and an ODU error. The Black and Gold responded in the bottom of the frame with five runs on five hits. Thompson and
Erica Massey (Independence, Ohio) singled and later scored thanks to a Walker single through the left side. Stevens doubled down the right field line to plate another before a Madden single to centerfield brought it to 5-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Golden singled through the left side but was stranded on second. In the next frame, Lewis brought their deficit to one after gathering four hits, making it 5-4. Hammer and the defense buckled down in the top of the seventh to pull out a 5-4 win.
Game Two
Roles reversed in the second game as ODU got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning. Golden walked and got into scoring position from a Walker sacrifice bunt. A Stevens single down the right field line scored her, making it 1-0.
Thompson singled in the bottom of the second but was left at first. The Black and Gold plated another run in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly from Stevens. Lewis grabbed their first hit of the game in the top of the fifth inning to break up the no hitter. ODU added three hits in the bottom of the frame but couldn't score, leaving it 2-0.
Thompson tabbed her third hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth. The Flyers had no answer in their last at bat, completing the sweep for the Panthers.

The Wayne State doubleheader on Wednesday has been canceled due to inclement weather in the area. ODU will play at Ashland on Saturday afternoon.
