ASHLAND, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team traveled to Ashland University to take on the Eagles in a conference clash. The Black and Gold took down the Purple and Gold, winning 5-3 and 2-1.
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) had a day at the plate going 5-8. The junior had a stolen base as well. Following her was
Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) with three hits. Potter had a double and a home run with a run batted in and accounted for four runs herself.
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) added two hits, both being doubles. The senior had two RBIs and she scored once.
Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) was the last Panther to snag an extra base hit as she posted a double in game two.
In the circle,
Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) posted a win and a save. The graduate student went 8.1 scoreless innings while retiring 11 Eagles.
Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) grabbed a win as well. Smodilla went 5.1 innings, giving up only one run and striking out three.
Game One
Golden opened the game with a single to left field but was stranded on the base path. The Eagles answered with three hits to plate three runs, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Panthers added a run in the top of the next frame to make it 3-1.
In the top of the third, the Black and Gold took the lead after a Stevens double scored Potter. A single bunt from
Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio), paired with an Ashland error allowed another to score. Lastly, a sacrifice fly from
Saadie Maysonet (Worthington, Ohio) pushed the Panthers to a 4-3 lead.
Potter went deep in the top of the sixth to give ODU an insurance run, making it 5-3. In their last two at bats, Hammer sat down two while the defense locked in, giving Ohio Dominican a 5-3 win.
Game Two
Once again, Golden began the game with a single. Potter doubled to center and later scored on a Stevens sacrifice fly, giving ODU a 1-0 lead. Ashland evened it up in the bottom of the second frame off two hits and a Panther error.
The Black and Gold took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth after Congleton doubled to right center to score Potter, who reached on an error. Stevens tabbed her second double of the day in that same inning. Ashland left six stranded in their last two at bats, giving ODU a 2-1 win.

Ohio Dominican will travel to Malone and Walsh next weekend to round out the regular season schedule.
