Softball Starts Week With Back-To-Back Regional Games; Ends At Ashland Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team will officially close out their home schedule with a makeup game on Tuesday against Lewis University. The Panthers will then travel the rest of the week to Wayne State University on Wednesday and G-MAC opponent, Ashland University, on Saturday.

The Black and Gold move to 26-10 overall and 14-6 in the Great Midwest athletic Conference, placing them in third in the standings after dropping two to Hillsdale on Sunday.

Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) leads the way for ODU with a .396 batting average. The senior has 36 hits and 19 stolen bases. Following her is Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) with a .372 average. Stevens shares the lead in the conference in doubles with 15 and is third in runs batted in with 35.

Junior, Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) follows with a .348 batting average. Golden has been walked a team high of 22 times and has accounted for 30 runs, ranking fifth in the G-MAC. Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) is second on the team in stolen bases with 17. Walker is hitting .323 from the plate with eight doubles, three triples, and a home run.

In the circle, Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) posts a 1.47 ERA, third best in the conference. Hammer has 97 strikeouts with 40 of them going down looking. She has a 7-4 record with five saves. Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) tabs a 10-3 record on the rubber with a 2.19 ERA. The graduate student has retired 50 batters in 89.1 innings pitched.

About Lewis
The Flyers head into Tuesday with a 29-10 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. LU most recently fell split with Missouri S&T, winning 5-4 in the opener, and losing 1-0 in the nightcap.

Leading the way for the team is Gabi Nilles with a .359 batting average. Nilles has 37 hits including 11 doubles, with 22 runs batted in. Jalyn Powell has 27 RBIs with six home runs and seven doubles. Powell has a .331 batting average with 44 hits on the year.

On the rubber, Allie Wondrasek posts a 12-1 record with a 1.11 ERA, 10th best in Division II. She has three shutouts in 94.1 innings pitched with 72 strikeouts. Delaney Garden follows with a 13-5 record and a 1.40 ERA. The junior has pitched 130.0 innings and collected 149 strikeouts, ranking 28th in all of Division II.

Lewis and Ohio Dominican have only met once since ODU joined Division II for the 2010-11 school year. The Flyers defeated the Panthers, 4-1, on March 10, 2020 in Florida.

About Wayne State
The Warriors are 14-23 on the year and 6-10 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They upset #14 Grand Valley state a week ago and have been on a four game losing streak ever since.

Rylie Josephson is hitting a team high of .460 from the plate. She has 46 hits and 12 RBIs. Kiley Lewandowski follows with a .400 batting average. She has 22 hits, two doubles, a triple, and a home run. Logan Forman has 30 hits and a team high of 22 RBIs.

Sydney Long posts a 3.61 ERA with a 5-8 record in 97.0 innings pitched. Long has 64 strikeouts. Alexis Bonk has a 5-9 record in 83.0 innings pitched. Bonk notches a 5.40 ERA with 68 strikeouts.

The Black and Gold are 10-13 against the Warriors, dating back to the 2011 season. Last season, the two played a three game series in Columbus with the Panthers taking two of the three from Wayne State.

About Ashland
The Eagles begin the week with a 16-21 overall record and a 9-9 conference mark. They are currently tied for sixth place in the standings with Malone and Findlay. They will head to Lake Erie on Thursday to take on the Storm before hosting the Panthers on Saturday.

Cassidy Shaffer is hitting .344 from the plate with 22 hits and 14 RBIs. Delaney Maynard has a team high of 25 RBIs and shares the lead in the conference with Stevens in doubles with 15. Danielle Robbins leads the team in hits with 39, in runs scored with 28, and in stolen bases with 19.

In the circle, Bryn Grabowski has a 6-4 record with a 2.52 ERA. Grabowski has pitched 64.0 innings and retired 30 batters. Madison Milligan has a 3.11 ERA with a 3-3 record in 54.0 innings pitched. She also has 30 strikeouts.
Since the Division II Era, Ohio Dominican is 12-20 against Ashland. Last season, the two split in Columbus with the Eagles taking game one, 2-1, and the Panthers snagging game two, 4-1.

First Pitch
First pitch is set for noon on Tuesday at Panther Field against the Flyers. Wednesday's doubleheader in Detroit with start at 2:00 PM. Saturday's conference match up at Ashland will begin at 1:00 PM.
