Softball Honors Seniors With Sweep Over Timberwolves

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team honored their nine seniors with a sweep over Northwood. In the process, the program now has 1,050 overall wins.

Multiple Panthers had a multi-hit day with Erica Massey (Independence, Ohio), Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) all going 2-5 from the plate. Massey and Stevens both had RBIs while Stevens added a double.

Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) and Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) both went 2-6 from the plate. Potter hit a solo home run, her first in her career, and a double. Lilly Irvine (Delaware, Ohio) went 1-2 with a double.

In the circle, Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) picked up the win in game one, going 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and allowing one run. Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) came in relief, snagging her fifth save of the season and striking out three. Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) went 7.0 scoreless innings, retiring seven batters, and giving up only four hits.

Game One
The Timberwolves got on the board in the top of the second frame off a solo shot to right centerfield. Congleton recorded her first hit of the afternoon in the bottom half of the inning but was stranded on second. In the next inning, Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) reached base for the second time from a walk. Stevens doubled to left center to even it at 1-all.

In the bottom of the fourth, Potter led off with a double to right center and stole third base. Massey singled to center field, scoring Potter to push ODU ahead 2-1. Northwood had no answer as Hammer retired all three outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Game Two
Golden opened the game with a single through the left side but back-to-back pop ups left her on the bases. In the bottom of the second, Potter hits a solo shot to centerfield, making it 1-0 for the Black and Gold.

More action continued in the bottom of the fourth inning as Irvine doubled followed by a single through the left side from Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio). Makaila Moses (Lancaster, Ohio) pinch hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Irvine to push it to 2-0.

Two innings later, Thompson got hit and advanced to second off a Madden single up the middle. A fielding error from NU allowed Thompson to score, growing the Black and Gold's lead to 3-0. Northwood went three up, three down in their last at bat.

Up Next
The Panthers return to Panther Field Sunday afternoon to take on the Chargers of Hillsdale at noon.
