COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team wraps up their home schedule this week. They look ahead for a senior day celebration on Saturday against Northwood, and finish with Hillsdale on Sunday.
About Ohio Dominican
The Black and Gold went 3-1 last week, splitting with Tiffin and sweeping Findlay. They are 24-8 on the season and 12-4 in the conference, placing them in third, right behind Hillsdale.
Senior,
Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) is currently leading the team, and is seventh in the conference, with a .395 batting average. Madden is second in the G-MAC in stolen bases with 18. She has a .421 batting average against conference opponents.
Following her is
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) with a .382 batting average. The middle infielder leads the Great Midwest in doubles with 14. Stevens is third in the G-MAC in runs batted in with 34 on the season. She has 15 stolen bases and 42 hits.
In the circle,
Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) has a 7-4 record and posts the fourth best ERA in the G-MAC with a 1.45. Hammer has 90 strikeouts so far, with 39 of them going down looking. The graduate student also leads the conference in saves with four.
Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) has a 9-2 mark on the rubber. Smodilla has a 2.18 ERA with 40 strikeouts. Opposing teams are hitting a .210 batting average against the graduate student. Lastly,
Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) is 8-2 in the circle. The sophomore has 63 strikeouts, pushing her past the 200 career strikeouts mark.
About Northwood
The Timberwolves enter the week with a 24-13 overall record and an 11-5 record in the G-MAC, placing them in fourth in the standings. Last weekend, Northwood split with Cedarville and Thomas More.
Brittany Steimel has a .385 batting average. The junior has 45 hits, including seven doubles and nine home runs. She has 36 RBIs and has been walked 11 times. Following her is Gabby Schloop with a .343 batting average. Schloop has six doubles, two triples, and two home runs. The junior has hit in 22 runs and stole five bases.
In the circle, Emily Cox posts the conference best ERA with a 0.97. The senior is 12-2 in 94.0 innings pitched. She has retired 88 batters in 10 complete games. Following her is Brynn Polega with a 4.55 ERA. The junior has pitched 55.1 innings with striking out 45 batters and accumulating a 5-1 record.
Since 2011, the Black and Gold are 14-9 against NU. The two last met last season for Northwood's first season in the conference.
About Hillsdale
The Chargers enter the weekend with a 25-11 overall record and an 11-3 conference record, placing them second in the standings. Hillsdale will head to Ashland on Saturday afternoon before making a trip to Columbus.
Sophomore, Maggie Olaveson, has a .363 batting average. She is third in the conference in doubles with 12 and fourth in home runs with eight. She also has 27 RBIs. Sydney Davis has a .378 batting average with 34 hits and eight doubles.
On the rubber, Joni Russell posts a 13-5 record an ERA of 1.44, third best in the G-MAC. She leads the conference in strikeouts with 168 and opposing batting average with teams hitting .195. Following her is Erin Kapteyn with a 2.44 ERA and 44 strikeouts.
The Panthers are 11-16 against the Chargers dating back to 2011. Last season, the two split during the regular season with ODU winning 4-1 and HC winning 2-1.
First Pitch
First pitch of the doubleheader with Northwood is set for 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. The Hillsdale doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM on Sunday, all at Panther Field. After the games on Saturday, all nine of the softball seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the program. These seniors include,
Grace Hammer, Addison Smodilla, Lindsey Potter, Emily Walker, Alexis Stevens, Alli Madden, Anna Darrah, Makaila Moses, and
