PAINESVILLE, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team wrapped up their week with a trip to Lake Erie College. The Panthers extended their winning streak to four with a 4-2 and a 7-1 win over the Storm.
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) had five hits on the day including a double and a triple. The junior scored three times and had two stolen bases.
Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) followed with four hits. Potter had two triples, scored three times, and plated one run.
Senior,
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) grabbed three hits with three stolen bases.
Addie Triplett (Johnstown, Ohio), Olivia Congleton (Belpre Ohio), and
Emily walker (Plain City, Ohio) all had two RBIs on the day.
In the circle,
Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) and
Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) netted wins today. Hammer improved to 7-3 with Smodilla moving to 8-2. In the first game, Hammer retired 12 batters. In the second game, Smodilla allowed only one run in 7.0 innings of work.
Game One
The Black and Gold got things started early as Golden doubled followed by a Potter triple to go ahead 1-0. A sacrifice fly from Congleton made it 2-0. Potter added her second hit in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, a two-run home run knotted it at 2-all. With a tie game, the Panthers rallied in their final at bat.
Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.) and
Emily Holland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) both singled, setting up a two-run double from Triplett. Golden added a triple but was left on base.
The Storm had no answer in their last at bat, resulting in a 4-2 win for ODU.
Game Two
Once again, ODU got on the board in the opening inning with three walks, a Steven's single, and a Congleton double. The Panthers went ahead 3-0 in the top of the third with the help of three hits.
A solo home run allowed the Storm to plate a run in the bottom of the frame. The Black and Gold responded in the next inning with singles from Golden and Walker to extend their lead to 5-1.
More scoring came in the top of the sixth as Potter and Stevens singled and later scored off an error and a Sterling sacrifice. Ohio Dominican went ahead 7-1. Lake Erie had no response ending in a sweep for the Black and Gold.
