Ohio Dominican Splits Wheeling Series After Wednesday Defeat

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Six days after the first game of the series between the Ohio Dominican Panthers (10-10) and the Wheeling Cardinals (13-9), the series concluded on Wednesday (March 27) at Frank Damian Field at Panther Valley.

After the Panthers won the first game 14-8, the Cardinals evened the series with a 12-3 win.

Ohio Dominican scored in each of the first two innings to start the scoring off, both with two outs. Spencer Tammaro (New Albany, Ohio) walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Gianni Passarelli (Delaware, Ohio) doubled home Tammaro as the Panthers led 1-0 in the first inning. Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio) had an infield single and subsquently swiped second base. The next batter, Peter Jelenic (Medina, Ohio) singled through the right side of the infield as the lead doubled to 2-0.

Wheeling scored four runs between the fourth and fifth innings, gaining a 4-2 lead at the halfway point of the contest. Ohio Dominican got a run back in the bottom of the fifth off of a Wheeling miscue in the field. Jordan Daniels (Blacklick, Ohio) kicked off the inning with being hit by a pitch and ended up stealing second base. On a ground ball to second base from Passarelli, the second baseman threw the ball wide of first base. The throw ended up in the visitors dugout, scoring Daniels for a 4-3 Cardinals lead.

The Cardinals added eight runs in the final four innings, winning the game 12-3.

Passarelli and Hunt had two hits each (including a double) as the Panthers totaled eight hits for the game. Tammaro walked three times in the game to reach base three times.

Jared Hoersten (Oregon, Ohio) started the game and allowed four runs in four and one third innings.

Following the last non-conference contest, Ohio Dominican will have conference games the rest of the way. Next up on the docket is a series with Thomas More this weekend. ODU will play a doubleheader on Friday (March 29) and Saturday (March 30) in Florence, Kentucky at Thomas More Stadium.
