Potter Walks Off Game One In Saturday Split With Trevecca

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team opened their Great Midwest Athletic Conference schedule with the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene. The Black and Gold stole the first game, 4-3, but the Trojans snuck past them in the nightcap, 5-4.

Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) and Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) both notched four hits on the day. Walker went 4-6 from the plate with a double, two runs batted in, and went 1-1 on stolen bases. Golden went 4-7 and accou9nted for two runs.

Lindsey Potter (Plain City, Ohio) secured three RBIs off two hits, including a triple. Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and Emily Holland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) added two hits, including a double each. Holland had an RBI while Stevens scored twice.

In the circle, Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) and Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) both picked up starts today. Jacobs retired six batters while Smodilla tabbed four. Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) came in during both games and went 1-1 on the rubber. Hammer secured three strikeouts.

Game One
Jacobs opened the game by retiring the first two batters. The two remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when ODU struck first. Golden singled to break up Trevecca's no hitter. Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) reached on an error, advancing the runners to second and third. A Walker bunt plated Golden to go ahead 1-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Holland doubled but was stranded on the bases. In the next inning, Trevecca hot two home runs to take a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Stevens singled to left center and was moved to second with a Walker walk. An error and a Holland RBI tied it up for the Panthers, 3-3.

With the game on the line, the Black and Gold went on a two-out rally in their last at bat. Madden singled up the middle, followed by a TNU error and another walk. With bases loaded, Potter walks it off with a single through the left side, winning it for Ohio Dominican 4-3.

Game Two
In the second game, ODU got on the board first with hits from Golden and Walker, making it 1-0 in the first. Trevecca answered with two solo home runs in the next inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers strung together three hits with two outs to tie it a 2-all.

TNU tabbed two hits, scoring one to take the lead again. In the final inning, Trevecca went ahead 5-2 during their last at bat. In the bottom of the frame, Stevens led off with a double, followed by a Walker single. Potter tripled to right center to score both, making it a one run game. Holland reached on a hit by pitch but the two were stranded, giving Trevecca a 5-4 win.
