COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team hosted the Ky. Wesleyan Panthers for their third series of the week. The Black and Gold struggled in game one, falling 3-0, but ended the day on a high note, winning 7-3.

Three players grabbed two hits with Lilly Irvine (Delaware, Ohio) going 2-4 from the plate. Irvine scored twice and had a stolen base. Emily Holland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) had two hits, including a double. Holland led the team with three runs batted in. The final panther with multiple hits was Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio)

In the circle, Grace Hammer (Uniontown, Ohio) started game one, retiring six in six innings. Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) went the distance in the second game, striking out one and collected a win.

Game One
Ky. Wesleyan got on the board in the opening inning after stringing together two hits. The Black and Gold tallied their first hit in the bottom of the fourth with an Alexis Stevens' (Marion, Ohio) single up the middle.

KWC plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning with two doubles, a single, and a sacrifice fly. In ODU's last at bat, two walks and a single loaded the bases, but they were all stranded, handing Ky. Wesleyan a 3-0 win.

Game Two
Tables were turned in the second game as the Black and Gold scored first. In the bottom of the second with two outs, Irvine singled to left, followed by a Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio) walk. Holland doubled to left field, scoring both.

In the next frame, the Purple Panthers tabbed three hits to go ahead 3-2. In the bottom of the inning, ODU answered with three hits of their own, singles from Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.) and Irvine, and a triple from Thompson. They retook a 4-3 lead.

Action continued in the bottom of the fifth as Emily Walker (Plain City, Ohio) led off with a double. KWC walked the bases loaded and then committed an error, allowing ODU to score one. Another walk put the Panthers on top, 6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, two walks and a wild pitch allowed Ohio Dominican into scoring position. Erica Massey (Independence, Ohio) laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Walker, making it 7-3. Ky. Wesleyan had no answer, ending the series in a split.
