Gebrtsadik Breaks Ohio Dominican Mile Record at Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers indoor track and field team continued the build towards the 2024 Great Midwest Indoor Track and Field Championships at the end of the month with an appearance at the Ashland Jud Logan Light Giver Open on Friday (Feb. 2) and Saturday (Feb. 3). 

One school record was broken in the weekend's events at the Niss Athletic Center. Eayuel Gebrtsadik (Columbus, Ohio) broke the mile record in the meet, running a 4:20.95 mile to break the old record from Caleb Belmont in 2020. 

2nd Place Finishes

  • Aly Diaby - 50.24 seconds for the 400 meter dash to set a season-best for himself and the team

4th Place Finishes

  • Cole Miller (Chillicothe, Ohio) made seven meters for the second time this season, moving into second place in the record books for ODU

8th Place Finishes

  • Ismael Obas (Columbus, Ohio) - season-high mark in the long jump (6.71 meters)
Other Finishes
  • Eayuel Gebrtsadik - 15th place for the mile, setting the ODU record (4:20.95)
  • Jeralyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) - set an indoor PR for the 5000 meters (19:51.07) with a 16th place finish
  • Brooke Armbrust (Grove City, Ohio) - 17th place in the 200 meters with the 7th fastest time in program history (25.85 seconds)
  • Owen Wilhelm (Sunbury, Ohio) - topped out at 1.80 meters for the high jump in 22nd place
  • Jaclyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) - also set an indoor personal best with a 20:38.14 time in the 5000 meters, 23rd overall
  • Isaac Eugene - second fastest personal 400 meter time of the season (52.10 seconds) in 25th place
  • Kaelin Pfeifer (Washington Court House, Ohio) - third fastest time for the 400 meters this season (1:04.98) in 25th place
  • Grace Pitt - just missed a personal best in the 400 meters at 1:05.05, finishing right behind Pfeifer in 26th place
  • Merrick Shorter (Dublin, Ohio) - set a PR in the mile with a 4:26.60 time, 28th place
  • Aidan Shannon (Columbus, Ohio) - finished with a 30th place finish in the 5K in his debut, time was 16:57.84.
  • Nikane Ambos (Wapakoneta, Ohio) - 1:06.88 in the 400 meters for 34th place
  • Jana Griffith (Washington Court House, Ohio) - 1:08.80 time in the 400 meters, slotting in 35th place
  • Rogan Hanson (Craig, Alaska) - entered the 3000 meters for the first time, setting a PR of 9:27.32 in 42nd place overall
  • Mustafa Al-Saibawi (Columbus, Ohio)third best marks of the season in both the shot put (11.55 meters - 45th place) and the weight throw (12.28 meters - 43rd place)
  • Gabrielle Reed (Pickerington, Ohio) - 2:37.90 for the 800 meters in 46th place
  • Kylee Henry (Circleville, Ohio) - season best in the mile (6:02.20), finishing in 47th place
  • Blake Wilson - had the third fastest 400 meter time of the season (56.27 seconds) for 49th place
  • Tyra McClain (Van Wert, Ohio) - debuted in the mile with the time of 6:10.48 in 49th place
  • Jacob Krous (Galena, Ohio) - ran the mile in 4:37.41
  • Henry Pierce - second best throw of the season in the weight throw, 10.71 meters
  • G'nae Morrison (San Antonio, Texas) - 28.36 second time in the 200 meters
  • Edward Devaney (Lexington, Ohio) - set an indoor PR in the mile with a 4:58.93
  • Eugene Boahen - 23.41 second time for the 200 meters
  • Tyler Wallace (Columbus, Ohio) - 24.84 seconds in the 200 meters
  • Benjamin Seely (Chesterton, Indiana) - 26.19 seconds in the 200 meters, his third fastest time of the season
  • Anna Blackstone (Lexington, Ohio) - raced in the 3000 meters for the second time this season, running a 13:37.35

The Panthers will compete at Tiffin next Saturday (Feb. 10) at the Tiffin Open.
