Panthers Stun Trojans for Overtime Triumph

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (4-13, 1-9 G-MAC) men's basketball team got back into the win column with an overtime thriller on Saturday (Feb. 3) against the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans (13-7, 8-4 G-MAC) at Alumni Hall. 

Saturday's contest saw 11 ties and seven lead changes as Ohio Dominican snapped a seven-game slide with an 81-76 win over the Trojans. 
 
BOX SCORE NOTES
  • Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio) finished with 27 points in the contest, the third straight game with 20 or more points. He was 12-of-21 from the floor with three free throws in the game to go with six assists, three rebounds and two steals.  
  • Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) tallied his first career double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. He tied a career-high with four threes in the game, going four-of-seven from deep. 
  • Parker Swartz (Grand Rapids, Michigan) nearly notched his first double-double, scoring 14 points and nine rebounds. The freshman converted six field goals of eight attempts, while making two threes. Swartz tied his season-best with two blocks against the Trojans.  
  • Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) continued his streak with 12 points on four field goals, two threes and two free throws. 
  • Lachlan MacDonald (Dublin, Ohio) returned to the lineup with seven points scored and three assists. 
  • Eli Meyer (Seymour, Indiana) added two rebounds and a block off the bench. 
  • Caleb Maurer (Fort Loramie, Ohio) scored his first career points with five and set a career-best with three boards. 
  • Ohio Dominican shot at least 50% for the third time this season. The Panthers were 50.0% (31-62) overall, 32.1% (9-28) from deep and 71.4% (10-14) at the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trevecca Nazarene hit two early three pointers to open a 10-2 lead for the first four minutes. 
  • Ohio Dominican followed with a 15-4 run, taking a 17-14 lead after 11 minutes of game action. 
    • Swartz made a pair of threes as he scored eight points on the run. 
  • Ruth scored ten points in the final nine minutes before halftime as ODU pushed the lead to as many as four (30-26). 
    • The game was tied six times in the first half (all in the last seven minutes). 
  • The game was tied at 30 for the intermission. 
  • Webb gave the Panthers a three point lead twice before the under 16 media timeout with a triple each time. 
  • After ODU took a 38-35 lead, Trevecca responded with a 15-4 rally for a second eight point lead of the contest. The Trojans led 50-42 at the midway point of the second half. 
  • The Panthers scored nine of the next 11 points as they got the lead down to 52-51, including five points from Webb. 
  • Five straight Trojan points got the visitors up to a six point advantage, 57-51 with 4:26 left. 
  • ODU quickly erased the lead with an 8-1 spurt, taking a 59-58 lead on a Ruth free throw with 2:05 to go. 
  • Trevecca scored five points for a 63-59 lead with under a minute left. 
  • MacDonald and Ruth combined to rally the Panthers to tie the game in the final 20 seconds. Ruth's bucket with under four seconds to go tied it at 65 to force overtime. 
  • Another Webb triple put ODU up 68-65 in overtime. Trevecca then pushed to a 70-70 tie with 2:38 left. 
  • After a Trojan triple to lead 73-72, Swartz nailed a layup off a missed free throw as the Panthers regained a 74-73 lead. 
  • Ohio Dominican scored seven of the final ten points for a 81-76 win over the Trojans. 
UP NEXT
  • Ohio Dominican will make a quick turnaround to host the Findlay Oilers on Monday (Feb. 5) evening at Alumni Hall. Tipoff for Monday's rescheduled contest is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
