11 Three Pointers Not Enough for Men's Basketball

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team returned to the confines of Alumni Hall for the penultimate home contest on Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon as they hosted the Northwood Timberwolves.  

Northwood defeated the Panthers 89-71 in the first meeting in the next nine days. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) scored 26 points for the second straight contest as he topped 20 points for the seventh time this season. He had eight field goals with five three pointers on the afternoon. He has four games of at least five triples this season. McKitrick made five-of-six free throws overall with four rebounds and five assists. 
  • Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio) mimicked his Thursday stat line with another 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. He tied his season best with five steals. Ruth finished tied with McKitrick for eight field goals made. 
  • Parker Swartz (Grand Rapids, Michigan) added seven points, four rebounds and two assists. 
  • Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) made two three pointers for six points with five rebounds and three assists. 
  • Caleb Maurer (Fort Loramie, Ohio) had six points off a pair of three pointers with three rebounds.
  • Lachlan MacDonald (Dublin, Ohio) knocked down two shots for four points. 
  • Eli Meyer (Seymour, Indiana) grabbed four rebounds for the sixth time this season and earned his third game of two blocks in ten games. His third three pointer of the season gave him his three points. 
  • Ohio Dominican shot 41.3% from the floor in the game, converting 26-of-63 attempts shooting. 
  • After 11 three pointers, the Panthers have five games of at least ten threes. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ohio Dominican exchanged the lead three times in the first eight minutes as they led 11-8 at the under-12 media timeout. Maurer made two threes while Swartz added a three to open the game. 
  • After two more lead changes, Ruth tied the game at 15 and 17 all with two straight jump shots. 
  • Northwood gained back the lead with a 10-3 run to take a 27-20 lead with 3:28 left before the halftime break. McKitrick scored back-to-back threes as ODU got within one, 27-26 but Northwood closed the half with four points to lead 31-26. 
  • With the Timberwolves scoring first on a three pointer, Webb kicked off the second half with a three pointer to get the lead back to five points.
  • For the first five minutes of the second half, Ohio Dominican answered the Timbies to keep the game under ten points. 
  • Northwood led by 17 (65-48) at the halfway point of the second half. At four different times, the Panthers slimmed the lead to 12 but could not get within single digits the rest of the way.
