Pair of Panthers Notch 18 Points in Dragons Setback

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team bounced right back into action with a quick turnaround to host the Tiffin Dragons on Monday (Feb. 12) night at Alumni Hall. 

Tiffin stormed back with a second half rally, defeating the Panthers 68-57 to wrap up the season series in favor of the Dragons. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • Parker Swartz (Grand Rapids, Michigan) set a career-high with 18 points on Monday night. Swartz knocked down six field goals of 13 attempts and making two three pointers. The freshman added four free throws (of six tries) to go along with seven rebounds. 
  • Luke Ruth (Grove City, Ohio) tied Swartz as the team leader in the scoring department. He converted seven-of-17 field goals and gave the Panthers a perfect three free throw makes. With five rebounds, he finished second on the team. Ruth came away with two steals and two assists. 
  • Sean McKitrick (Dayton, Ohio) scored nine points with a team-high three assists. 
  • Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) nailed one three pointer with two rebounds, two assists and a block. 
  • Caleb Maurer (Fort Loramie, Ohio) reached a career-high with four rebounds as he scored one point on a free throw. 
  • Lachlan MacDonald (Dublin, Ohio) had four points, three rebounds and two assists. 
  • Eli Meyer (Seymour, Indiana) had four rebounds for the third straight game and fourth time of the season. Meyer set a career-high with four points and tied a mark with two assists. 
  • Ohio Dominican tallied a 38.2% field goal percentage with 21-of-55 field goals. The Panthers drilled five three pointers of 22 tries and then went ten-of-13 at the free throw line. 
  • The Panthers defense held Tiffin to three-of-20 shooting beyond the three point line. In two games this season, Tiffin combined to go five-of-38 (13.1%).
  • With 12 assists, five different players had at least two dimes each. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKitrick capped a 9-2 run over the first four minutes with a triple as the Panthers lead by seven at the under-16 media timeout. 
  • Tiffin cut the lead to four points (12-8) at the 13:42 mark before Ruth scored the next five points. Ohio Dominican's lead grew to 17-8 nearing the halfway point of the first half. 
  • Six straight Dragon points pulled the visitors to down three points (17-14) nearing the under-8 media timeout. 
  • Three pointers from Swartz and Ruth allowed the Panthers to gain their biggest lead of the game, 25-15 with 4:12 remaining before halftime. 
  • Ohio Dominican led 26-20 at the halftime break after a late Dragon triple shrunk the lead to six. 
  • Tiffin opened the second half on a 24-9 run, taking an 44-35 lead at the under-12 media timeout. Swartz answered with five of the next seven Panther points as a 7-0 ODU run trimmed the lead to 44-42 with 9:12 left. 
  • Six consecutive Dragons points elevated the lead back to eight (52-44) with under five minutes left. Back-to-back Panther possessions led to second chance points helping the Panthers. Webb knocked down a triple with MacDonald following moments later with a putback as ODU got within 52-49 with 3:48 left. 
  • Tiffin created some distance late in the game and won the game 68-57. 
UP NEXT
  • Ohio Dominican heads towards the shores of Lake Erie to face the Lake Erie College Storm on Thursday (Feb. 15) night. Tipoff comes at 5:30 PM in the opening game of the doubleheader.
