Black And Gold Suffer Setback At #1 Ashland

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team took on #1 Ashland University this afternoon. The Panthers held with the Eagles until the fourth quarter where AU flew past ODU to a 101-72 victory.
Box Score Notes
  • Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) led the way with 22 points on the afternoon. Stare went 8-11 from the charity stripe with three rebounds and three assists.
  • Following her was La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 20 points. Hill grabbed three steals while going 5-5 from the free throw line and 7-15 from the floor.
  • Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) was the third player to net double figures with 10 points. The guard went 2-3 from behind the arch and 4-5 from the field. Mullet led the team with four assists and added three rebounds.
  • Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) tabbed seven points and two rebounds. Madelyn Fearon (Greenville, Ohio) added six points while Shannon Wojciak (Medina, Ohio) led the team with four rebounds.
How It Happened
  • The Black and Gold scored the first six points before the Purple and Gold quickly tied it up at 8-all. From there, the two traded points for the reminder of the opening quarter, with AU grabbing a one-point lead, making it 24-23.
  • In the second period, the Eagles took a five-point lead before eight straight points from Stare switched the lead. After multiple ties, Ashland went on a 6-1 run to head into the half with a seven-point lead.
  • ODU came out the gate scoring five of the first seven points, cutting their deficit to four. Ashland rallied back, ending on a 17-0 run to go ahead 69-52.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Eagles went ahead as many as 32 points before pulling out a 101-72 win.

ODU remains on the road at Lake Erie next Thursday.
