Men's Basketball Puts Up Fiesty Battle With Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (3-3, 0-1 G-MAC) men's basketball team battled the Hillsdale Chargers (7-1, 1-0) in the conference opener on Thursday (Dec. 5). 

Ohio Dominican gave the Chargers, currently receiving votes in the NABC Coaches Poll and #15 in the D2CSC Top 25, a second half run to begin conference play. Hillsdale held off the Panthers 59-52 at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • Derek Goodman scored a career-high 13 points, making a trio of three pointers. 
  • Terrance Broughton tallied 12 points with six rebounds and three assists. Broughton knocked down two three pointers and had two of the only three free throws for the Panthers.
  • Jaylan Green came off the bench with ten points. Green had two threes in the game. 
  • Antonio Carter followed Green with seven points in 12 minutes of relief. 
  • JeJuan Weatherspoon totaled eight points and seven rebounds. 
  • The Panthers shot 33.9% on the floor (21-of-62) in the contest with Hillsdale shooting 41.8% (23-of-55) from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hillsdale jumped out to a 23-9 lead over the first 12 minutes of the first half, pushing their lead to as many as 18 (29-11) with three minutes left. 
  • Broughton scored the final five points of the half, getting the Panthers down to a 29-16 deficit at halftime. 
  • Ohio Dominican started the second half with a flurry to get the lead to under double digits. With a 16-8 run, ODU pulled within five points (37-32). After a scoreless first half, Weatherspoon tallied six points with Goodman scoring five in the spurt. 
  • Hillsdale bounced back to a 13-point lead with a 12-4 run as they led 49-36 with 5:55 to go. 
  • A 9-0 run with three triples over the next two and a half minutes slimmed the lead down to 49-45. Green made two of the three triples with Goodman adding the third. 
  • Another Goodman three got a four-point deficit for the Panthers with 98 seconds left. 
  • Hillsdale kept the Panthers at bay, winning 59-52.
UP NEXT
  • The Panthers remain in the state of Michigan for a Saturday (Dec. 7) contest with the Northwood Timberwolves at 3:00 PM.
