WILBERFORCE, Ohio-Â The Ohio Dominican Panthers (3-7) men's basketball team returned back to non-conference play with a trip to Southwest Ohio, taking on the Central State Marauders (4-9) on Friday (Dec. 20) afternoon.
The Marauders turned away the Panthers with a 66-65 victory at Beacom/Lewis Gym.Â
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Elijah Hinton led the Panthers with 14 points, shooting five-of-nine from the floor and adding a pair of three pointers and free throws. Hinton took three balls away from the Marauders.Â
- Terrance Broughton dished out seven assists with two steals, five points and two rebounds.Â
- JeJuan Weatherspoon finished with a 12 point, 11 rebound double-double with four assists. Weatherspoon scored six of his points at the free throw line on seven attempts.Â
- Derek Goodman knocked down four threes for 12 points.Â
- Brady Moore and Antonio Carter each scored nine points.Â
- Ohio Dominican shot 42.6% (23-54) from the floor while Central State made 54.5% (24-44) of their shots in the game.Â
- Central State was 11-of-24 from deep with the Panthers making nine threes (of 23 attempts).
- ODU converted ten-of-11 free throw tries.Â
- The Panthers out-rebounded the Marauders 31-23 while winning the offensive rebounds category 16-7. ODU had 17 second chance points in the game.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A back and forth first half that featured nine lead changes and five ties saw the two teams bounce the lead off each other.Â
- The game was tied four times in the opening ten minutes of the game.Â
- After ODU led 18-16 with a Weatherspoon three-point play, Central State scored five straight points for a 21-18 lead with 6:22 left.Â
- One minute later, CSU regained a 23-20 three point advantage before ODU answered with a 10-3 run for a 30-26 lead with 2:28 to go in the half.Â
- Central State closed the lead to 32-31 at halftime as the Panthers led at the break.Â
- After Central State tied the game at 32Â after halftime, Goodman made a trio of threes as the Panthers went on a 12-6 flurry for a 44-38 lead five minutes in.Â
- The game was kept at bay with ODU leading until Central State tied it at 52 with 7:47 remaining.Â
- ODU scored eight of the next ten points to retake a 60-54 lead with 5:09 left in the game.Â
- A 7-0 Marauders run put CSU in the lead with 3:52 on the clock with a 61-60 lead.Â
- Central State led 66-62 with Goodman getting the lead down to one with a three under two minutes.Â
- ODU had a chance at the buzzer to win the game but came up just inches short.Â
