Lincoln Slows Ohio Dominican in Final Game Before Holiday Break

MATTOON, Ill.-  To head into the holiday break, the Ohio Dominican Panthers (3-8) men's basketball team traveled across I-70 to meet the Lincoln (Mo.) Blue Tigers (9-4) in a neutral site contest on Sunday (Dec. 22) afternoon. 

Playing at Lake Land College (a NJCAA school in Illinois) Lincoln limited the Panthers in the second half for a 74-49 win at Laker Field House. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • For the second straight game, Elijah Hinton scored a team-high. Hinton had 13 points on six field goals (one three pointer) with four rebounds. 
  • Terrance Broughton made four threes to total 12 points and was tied for the team lead with five boards. 
  • JeJuan Weatherspoon was tied with Broughton at five rebounds with two assists and two steals. 
  • Jaylan Green tallied seven points off the bench with two assists and a pair of rebounds. 
  • Zac Kimball grabbed four rebounds and had a block as ODU totaled four rejections. 
  • Derek Goodman hit three free throws for a five point afternoon with two swipes and two rebounds. 
  • Tony Ezeonu compiled three points, three rebounds and two blocks in seven minutes off the bench. 
  • Ohio Dominican shot 34.5% (19-55) from the floor with Lincoln making 50.9% (29-57) of their shots overall. 
    • The Blue Tigers made 13 threes to ODU's six. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ohio Dominican started the scoring on a Hinton layup in the opening minute but Lincoln answered with a 10-2 run for a 10-4 lead five minutes into the game. 
  • A pair of three pointers from Hinton and Green got the Blue Tigers lead to three (13-10) one minute later. 
  • Over the next six minutes, Lincoln pushed the lead to 30-16 with a 17-6 push before the under eight media timeout. 
  • After the timeout, Hinton scored six points while Broughton hit a three pointer as the Panthers went on a 9-0 run to get within five points, 30-25 with five minutes left in the second half. 
  • The Blue Tigers led 36-29 at the halftime break as both teams neared 50% shooting. 
    • All of Hinton's points came in the first half. 
  • Lincoln started the second half with an 11-0 spurt to open an 18 point lead (47-29) before the 16 minute media timeout. 
  • The teams exchanged baskets for a few possessions before the Blue Tigers pulled away with a 12-0 run for a 72-41 lead with 5:44 to go. 
  • Ohio Dominican closed the game with eight of the final 12 points, ending the scoring at 74-49. 
    • Lincoln outscored the Panthers 38-20 in the final 20 minutes.

  • After the time away for the holidays, the Panthers will host Miami (Ohio) Middletown on December 31st for a New Year's Eve contest. Tipoff at Alumni Hall is set for 5:30 PM.
