ALLENDALE, Michigan -Â The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team faced a tough challenge in their season opener, falling to the #3 ranked Grand Valley State University Lakers, 94-43, in Allendale, Michigan. Despite the lopsided score, there were notable performances from a few key Panthers, with
Brynn Mullet,
Logan Pride, and
Shannon Wojciak leading the team.Â
Mullet played 29 minutes, contributing eight points, four rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Pride also chipped in with eight points, going 3-of-6 from the field, while Wojciak scored eight points and added five rebounds and a steal. The Panthers scored 24 points in the paint and received 17 points off the bench.
However, the game was largely dominated by Grand Valley State. The Lakers established control early, limiting Ohio Dominican to just six points in the first quarter while putting up 21 of their own. GVSU's offensive onslaught continued in the second quarter, as they added 25 more points, taking a commanding 46-21 lead into halftime.Â
Ohio Dominican showed resilience, scoring 15 points in the second quarter and matching GVSU's output with 15 points in the third. But Grand Valley State proved too much to handle, as they dropped another 24 points in the third and fourth quarters to seal the win. In the final period, Ohio Dominican managed only seven points, as the Lakers' depth and offensive efficiency wore down the Panthers.Â
Ohio Dominican shot 48.5% from the field and 73.7% from the free-throw line.Â
