Women's Basketball Pulls Off Huge Upset Against #2 Gannon

COLUMBUS, Ohio - In a thrilling upset before the Thanksgiving break, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team took down the #2 ranked Gannon Golden Knights, 73-62, inside Alumni Hall. 

Key Leaders

Guard Brynn Mullet led the way with a game-high 29 points, shooting 9-18 from the field, including 4-9 from beyond the arc, and 7-9 from the free throw line. She also contributed seven rebounds, playing a pivotal role in Ohio Dominican's success. 

Sarah Ochs matched Mullet's offensive output with 24 points, shooting 8-14 from the field and a near-perfect 9-10 from the charity stripe. Ochs also contributed seven rebounds and four assists, adding to the Panthers' strong team effort. 

Gabby Stare was another key contributor, posting 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while also adding steals. 

Ohio Dominican's collective efforts helped them control the game, with 16 points in the paint, 12 points off turnovers, and 13 fast break points. The game was full of back-and-forth action, with 14 lead changes and the score tied seven times, but the Panthers ultimately sealed the win with a strong second-half performance. 

How it Happened 

First Quarter: 

The game started off tight, with both teams playing strong defense. Ohio Dominican held Gannon to just 12 points, as the Golden Knights struggled with their shooting, making only 41.67% of their attempts. Meanwhile, Ohio Dominican capitalized on their opportunities, shooting 6-13 from the field and taking a 17-12 lead. 

Second Quarter: 

The defensive battle continued into the second quarter, with Gannon shooting just 35% from the field. However, Ohio Dominican stayed afloat thanks to their strong free-throw shooting, hitting 88.89% of their attempts. The Panthers went into halftime with a narrow 36-31 lead. 

Third Quarter: 

Gannon bounced back in the third, improving their shooting to 57.14% and hitting 50% of their three-pointers. They outscored Ohio Dominican 21-16 in the period, tying the game at 52-52 heading into the final quarter. 

Fourth Quarter: 

Ohio Dominican regained control in the final period, limiting Gannon to just 10 points. The Panthers' defense was suffocating, and their offense clicked, as they shot 100% from the free-throw line and 66.67% from beyond the arc. The perfect free-throw shooting in the clutch helped seal the win, and Ohio Dominican finished strong for a 73-62 victory.

History 

This victory is historic for Ohio Dominican, as it marks their highest-ranked win since joining Division II. Their last win over a top-5 opponent was in 2017 when they defeated #4 California (PA) 93-75. Their last top-25 win came in 2019 against #22 Glenville State. This win over Gannon is a significant milestone for the program.
