Hinton Leads Panthers in Neutral Site Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Ohio Dominican Panthers (0-1) men's basketball team kicked off the 2024-25 season on the road in a neutral site contest on Sunday (Nov. 10) afternoon. 

The Panthers battled the Missouri S&T Miners (1-0) on the floor at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Miners took the lidlifter 91-77. 

BOX SCORE NOTES
  • Elijah Hinton made his Panther debut with 24 points scored, three rebounds and two assists. Hinton knocked down seven-of-11 shots (three-of-four from deep) and seven of his nine free throw attempts.  
  • Brady Moore and Terrance Broughton joined Zac Kimball with ten points (on four made field goals) scored each. Kimball and Broughton both made two three pointers. 
    • Broughton dished out seven assists with his four rebounds. 
  • JeJuan Weatherspoon returned to the court with seven points, six rebounds and a block. 
  • Derek Goodman had five assists and three rebounds to go with his one three pointer made. 
  • The Panthers shot 50.9% on the floor (29-of-57) in the contest. 
    • ODU was ten-of-26 on three pointers for 38.5%.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a highly contested first half with 11 lead changes and seven ties, the teams went punch for punch in the first nine minutes.
  • Exchanging baskets through a 20-20 tie, Hinton hit a three pointer to put ODU ahead 23-20 before Carson Seemann followed with a jumper to lead 25-22 with 11:13 left in the half. 
  • Missouri S&T went on a 19-7 run over five minutes for a 41-32 lead with 5:50 remaining before halftime. 
  • Moore, Goodman and Broughton all made threes as the Panthers tied the game at 41, part of a 9-0 Panther run over two minutes. 
  • The Miners cashed in a three-point play around the four minute media timeout for a 44-41 advantage. 
  • Hinton and Antonio Carter hit threes as ODU regained the 48-44 lead with a 7-0 run. The Panthers led 48-47 at the halftime break. 
  • After the game was tied 53-53 three minutes in, the Miners held a small lead until they opened a 65-57 advantage with 12:07 left. Tony Ezeonu, Moore and Kimball cut the lead to two (65-63) with six straight ODU points. 
  • S&T created some distance in the final ten minutes, leading by as many as 18 points. They won the game 91-77. 
UP NEXT
  • The Panthers are headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a pair of games later this week. They will take on Rio Piedras on Friday (Nov. 15) and Bayamon on Saturday (Nov. 16).
