Fast Start From Northwood Too Much For Women's Basketball

MIDLAND, Mich. – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team traveled north to Northwood University to take on the Timberwolves. The Panthers fought hard but fell to Northwood, 82-63.

  • Leading the way for the Black and Gold was Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) with 18 points. Stare went 4-5 from the free throw line, grabbing six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
  • Following her was guard, La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 15 points on the afternoon. The point guard dished out a team high of five assists and secured three steals.
  • Forward Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) netted eight points. Shackleford matched Stare in grabbing six rebounds and snagging two steals.
How It Happened
  • The Timberwolves started fast and strong, running out to a 9-2 lead over the first four minutes. Northwood continued to grow their lead, ending the first quarter ahead 26-10.
  • Six different Panthers scored in the second period including a three from Sarah Ochs (Beavercreek, Ohio) and a layup from Dyllan Metcalf (Green, Ohio). The Black and Gold entered the intermission down 49-26.
  • Hill netted back-to-back three pointers in the third period to start an 11-0 scoring run for ODU, cutting their deficit to 12. Stare secured 8 points over the period, but Ohio Dominican still trailed, entering the final 10 minutes down 17 points.
  • In the final period, the two traded buckets with Stare recording another eight-point period. The Black and Gold couldn't overcome the deficit, falling to Northwood, 82-63.
