Slow Third Quarter Allows Cavs To Slide Past Panthers In Alumni Arena

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – To end the second week of the new year, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team traveled to North Canton to take on the Cavaliers of Walsh for the second time in a week. This time, the Maroon and Gold found themselves victorious with an 81-75 win.

  • Both La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) shared the lead with 15 points each. Hill shot 50.0 percent from behind the arc, knocking down four. The freshman added five assists and three steals on the afternoon.
  • Stare grabbed a team high of six rebounds to go along with her 15 points. The senior dished out four assists and recorded two steals.
  • In 24 minutes of play, Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) netted 11 points. The forward had five rebounds and two assists as well. Fellow forward, Jazmyn Wheeler (Winfield, W. Va.) matched Stare with six rebounds. Wheeler also scored eight points.
How It Happened
  • The Cavs netted the first basket, but Hill quickly tied it at 6-all with back-to-back threes. The two traded buckets for the rest of the period with ODU ending on top, 19-13, heading into the second.
  • In the second period, a pair of free throws from Dyllan Metcalf (Green, Ohio) pushed the Panthers lead to 10 with five minutes remaining in the half. The Cavaliers ended the quarter on a 13-4 scoring run to go into the intermission down two, making it 35-33.
  • To open the third quarter, the two went back-and-forth until Walsh went on a 12-0 run to take a 49-42 lead. ODU trailed the remainder of the quarter and entered the final 10 minutes down seven.
  • The Black and Gold battled in the final period, cutting their deficit to four at one point. Despite the effort, the Panthers fell to the Cavaliers, 81-75.
