Arrows Shoot Past Panthers In 67-54 Defeat

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Thursday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team hosted Ursuline College for their third consecutive home game. The Arrows defeated the Panthers, 67-54.

  • Leading the way for the Black and Gold was Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) with 17 points. The freshman went 6-9 from the floor and grabbed a team high of seven rebounds.
  • Following her was fellow freshman, La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) with eight points. Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) recorded six points and matched her career high of seven assists.
  • Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) and Jazmyn Wheeler (Winfield, W. Va.) both secured five points. The pair each netted a three pointer. Wheeler snagged five rebounds while Mullet had three assists.
How It Happened
  • The Arrows opened the game with an early 7-0 run. Shackleford and Hill connected for back-to-back three pointers to cut their deficit to one. The Black and Gold went 4-7 from behind the arc in the first 10 minutes but continued to trail 19-14 heading into the second period.
  • Over the first two minutes in the second quarter, Ursuline went on a 6-2 scoring run to push their lead to 25-16. A layup from Wheeler brought it within nine before UC went into the intermission outscoring ODU 13-4, making it 42-24.
  • In the third period, the two traded baskets the entire quarter. For the Panthers, Shackleford netted 10 of the team's 19 points. The Black and Gold entered the final period down 20.
  • Over the first half of the final quarter, Ohio Dominican went on a 7-1 scoring run to cut their deficit to 14, making it 64-45. Over the next two minutes, both teams went scoreless until a Stare layup broke it up.
  • The Arrows only scored four points in the fourth period, all from the free throw line. However, it was enough to give them a 67-54 win.
