Volleyball Extends Win Streak To Two At Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team traveled to Great Midwest Athletic Conference newcomer, Thomas More for the first time. The Panthers dropped the opening set but battled to defeat the Saints in four sets, 3-1.

  • Leading the way for the Black and Gold was Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with 16 kills. The junior added 16 digs, marking her sixth double-double on the year. Joining her in double-figure kills was Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) with 10 kills.
  • Adding another double-double to her stat line was Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) with 26 assists and 13 digs. Fellow setter, Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) posted 19 assists and six digs.
  • Seniors and Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) and Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ohio) joined Lucas with 16 digs on the day. Shoup added three assists with Keipert having three service aces.
How It Happened
  • The Panthers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the opening set. ODU extended their lead to 13-7 with a four-point swing. Thomas More took an 18-17 lead after an 8-3 run late in the set. TMU maintained their lead and won the first set, 25-23.
  • Once again, Ohio Dominican began the second set with a 9-5 lead. The Panthers went up as many as seven-points after kills form Avery and Lucas, making it 16-9. The Saints rallied with a four-point run to bring it within three but the Black and Gold stayed strong and took the set 25-19, tying it 1-1.
  • In the third set, ODU took the first five points to make it 5-0. After some back-and-forth and a four-point swing, TMU took a 13-11 lead. The two traded points until the Panthers won five of the last six points, winning the set 25-21.
  • The Black and Gold ran out to an early lead again in the fourth set, making it 8-4. The Panthers extended their lead to 20-11 after going on a 7-1 run. Ohio Dominican finished strong, winning the set 25-13, and the game 3-1.
