PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team opened Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at Lake Erie College on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers had a strong first half to defeat the Storm 2-1.
The Black and Gold made their mark early with
Ryanne Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) scoring in the 5
th minute after connecting with
Carmen Morris (Lancaster, Ohio). Lake Erie let off two shots, missing high on both.
In the 41
st minute, freshman
Natalie Burwinkel (Reading, Ohio) teamed up with
Avery Bowden (Pickerington, Ohio) to connect with the back of the net for the first time in her career. Burwinkel put ODU ahead 2-0 before the intermission.
In the second half,
Kaitlin Grady (Twinsburg, Ohio) snagged her first save of the match. Buck and Bowden both tried to extend the lead, but got stopped by the Storm keeper. In the 76
th minute, LEC got on the board to cut their deficit in half, making it 2-1.
No one had an answer in the final 15 minutes, resulting in a conference win for Ohio Dominican.
