COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Wednesday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team hosted the Saints of Thomas More for the first ever meeting in the Division II Era. The Panthers and the Saints battled for 90 minutes, resulting in a 4-4 draw.
Thomas More fired on all cylinders in the opening minutes, letting off two shots on goal. Senior
Jadelyn McNerney (Springboro, Ohio) was there to collect both saves. On the offensive end for the Black and Gold, forward
Alex Garver (Springboro, Ohio) connected with
Ryanne Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) to score in the 8
th minute.
The Saints tied it up at 1-all in the 28
th minute. Within the next six minutes,
Kaleigh Jaracz (Avon, Ohio) fired off a shot, bouncing off the woodwork. The ricochet landed perfectly for
Mallory Smucker (Toledo, Ohio) to head it in, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead before the half.
In the opening seconds of the second half,
Roisin Kennedy (Delaware, Ohio) extended the Black and Gold's lead to 3-1 off a corner kick dime from
Devin Schoenberger (Redondo Beach, Calif.). With a chip on their shoulder, the Saints cut into their deficit with a score in the 53
rd minute, making it 3-2.
In under 30 seconds, ODU added another goal, this time
Carmen Morris (Lancaster, Ohio) connected with the back of the net after teaming up with
Riley Arnold (Waynesville, Ohio), making it 4-2 in the 53
rd minute. In the 61
st minute, Thomas More went on the offensive, firing off three shots in a matter of seconds. Senior
Kaitlin Grady (Twinsburg, Ohio) stopped one with the team picking up a save as well. TMU scored on the third, bringing them within one, 4-3. In the 70
th minute, the Saints evened it at 4-all.
In the final 20 minutes, neither team got another opportunity, resulting in a 4-4 draw after 90 minutes of play.
