COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Wednesday evening, the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team hosted Malone University in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup. The Panthers and the Pioneers battled for a 1-1 draw and a point in the conference standings.
Forward
Amadou Mamadou (Columbus, Ohio) took the first shot in the opening minutes, missing high over the goal. The Pioneers followed up with a shot of their own in the 13
th minute, resulting in another save for sophomore
Gannon Graf (North Olmsted, Ohio).
A Panther foul led to a Malone penalty kick in the 33
rd minute. The Pioneers converted the kick to take a 1-0 lead in the first half. Before the intermission,
Evan French (Canal Winchester, Ohio) fired off a shot to the bottom right but MU keeper caught the save.
To open the second half
Jack Jenkins (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and
Mohamed Sheik (Columbus, Ohio) registered back-to-back shots before senior
Jacob Gruber (Westerville, Ohio) converted a free kick to a score, tying it at 1-all in the 52
nd minute.
Trying to take the lead, the Black and Gold let off five more shots but couldn't connect to the back of the net. The defense remained strong for ODU as Graf added three more saves and a team save to leave the match at a 1-1 draw.
