ASHLAND, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers outdoor track and field team competed in the 2023 Great Midwest Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Ashland University last week.
Four school records fell in the final meet of the 2023 outdoor season as the teams both finished in tenth place with ten points.
MEN
Eugene Boahen ran two identical times of 10.79 seconds in the 100 meter prelims and finals, slotting sixth best overall. He set a personal best in the 200 meters prelims (21.47 seconds) that saw him qualify for the finals. Boahen finished seventh in the finals with a 21.89 second time.
Owen Wilhelm (Sunbury, Ohio) finished seventh overall in the high jump with an personal best of 1.95 meters.
Ethan Sinning (Tipp City, Ohio) set an ODU record of 32:48.00 in the 10K race, finishing 20th place.
Jacob Krous (Galena, Ohio) was 18th in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:09.50.
Manny Codjoe (Bolingbrook, Illinois) and
Ismael Obas (Columbus, Ohio) ran 100 meter prelim times of 11.41 and 11.47 seconds, respectively. They finished in 21st and 23rd place. Codjoe and
Benjamin Seely (Chesterton, Indiana) both set 200 meter PR's of 22.91 and 23.35 seconds in 21st and 24th place.
Obas topped out at 5.87 meters in the long jump in 20th place.
In the 400 meter prelims,
Aly Diaby led the way with a 50.93 second time in 21st place.
Marcus Steele (Columbus, Ohio) was right behind Diaby with 50.95 seconds for a prelim time.
Jaivien Steele (Cleveland, Ohio) set a personal best with 52.29 seconds.
Merrick Shorter (Dublin, Ohio) competed in the 5000 meters with a 29th place finish and an overall time of 16:41.74.
The 4x100 relay quartet of Codjoe, Boahen, Obas and Diaby combined for a 42.62 seconds in eighth place. Diaby,
Blake Wilson (Medina, Ohio) and both Steeles were seventh in the 4x400 meter relay with a 3:23.26 time.
Tyler Hampton had respective throws of 11.53 meters in the shot put and 32.63 meters in the discus.
Henry Pierce (Rockbridge, Ohio) ended his two events with throws of 9.76 meters and 31.80 meters, respectively.
Landon Latham (Westland, Michigan) ran in the 800 meters and 1500 meters. For the 800 meters, Latham clocked in at 2:10.30 and then followed with a 4:38.28 time for the 1500 meters.
WOMEN
Brooke Armbrust (Grove City, Ohio) made two appearances in the finals with two new school records. She set her own 100 meter record with a prelim time of 11.98 seconds. She later finished sixth place overall with a 12.06 second finals time. Armbrust reset the 200 meter record in the preliminary races with 24.85 seconds. She was eighth in the final with a time of 25.19 seconds.
Molly Van Horn (Granville, Ohio) set another ODU record with a top time in the 400 meter finals. After running an 58.38 time in the prelims, she shaved two tenths off her time to clock out at 58.18 seconds. She finished eighth overall. She added a 12th place 200 meter finish in 25.83 seconds.
G'nae Morrison (San Antonio, Texas) raced in the 100 meter prelims with Armbrust, running a race of 12.81 seconds (17th place).
Nikane Ambos (Wapakoneta, Ohio) was 20th in the 200 meter prelims with a 27.54 second run.
Kassydee Owens (Harlan, Kentucky) and Grace Pitt turned in PR efforts in the 400 meters with Van Horn. Owens was at 59.28 seconds for tenth place. Pitt timed out at 1:07.07 for 24th place.
Kylee Henry (Circleville, Ohio) had a personal best in the 1500 meter prelims with a 5:35.49 time.
Jeralyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) set a PR in the 5K in 25th place (20:25.49). Her sister
Jaclyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) was one place behind with a final mark of 20:31.88.
Jadelyn McNerney (Springboro, Ohio) nailed two personal bests in the shot put and discus. She was the top Panther in 22nd place with a 9.32 meter shot put. With a 22.46 meter throw in the discus, she was in 29th place.
Marie Pascaline Ndayishimye was the best ODU competitor in the discus with a PR of 23.33 meters (a PR). She had a best throw of 8.74 meters for the shot put.
Armbrust, Owens, Morrison and Van Horn earned a fifth place finish for the 4x100 relay. The team combined for a 49.24 second time. Three of those four ran in the 4x400 relay with Ambos replacing Morrison. The Panthers were eighth as a team with a 4:03.67.
Kelsey Shaffer (Spencerville, Ohio) cleared 4.50 meters in the long jump, a personal best.
Ashley Chimielewski (Roscommon, Mich.) finished 11th overall in the javelin throw with a PR mark of 30.27 meters.
Shannon Wojciak (Medina, Ohio) and
Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) both reached PR bests with respective throws of 22.33 and 19.37 meters.
Nia Johnson (Holland, Ohio) was a 12.06 meter throw in the javelin toss.
