FINDLAY, Ohio – On the second day of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, the Ohio Dominican softball team faced off against Cedarville University at 10:00 AM. The Black and Gold walked it off in the seventh inning, 3-2, to advance to the next round.
Junior
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) went 3-4 from the plate and snagged two stolen bases. Freshman
Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) added a double in the bottom of the second. In the circle,
Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) grabbed her 21
st win of her freshman campaign. Jacobs netted three strikeouts.
How It Happened
Ohio Dominican got things started in the bottom of the second inning after a leadoff double form Congleton. A sacrifice bunt from
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) advanced Congleton to third. A fielding error plated her, giving ODU the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the next inning, Stevens singled to right field and stole second to get things going.
Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) snagged her first hit of the day to put runners on first and second.
Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) added her first hit to load the bases. Congleton ground out the second baseman but added a run to extend their lead to 2-0.
Cedarville tied it up at 2-all in the top of the fourth inning after stringing together three hits including two doubles. In the bottom of the sixth,
Emily Holland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) netted a single to left field, followed by an infield single from Stevens.
The Yellow Jackets added a hit in their last at bat but left her stranded on the bases. In the bottom of the frame,
Makaila Moses (Lancaster, Ohio) leadoff with a pinch-hit single down the right field line.
Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Pa.) singled on a bunt, putting Panthers on first and second. Stevens singled on another bunt to load the bases. Madden then wlaked it off with a fielder's choice, plating
Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio) to grab the win and advance to the next round.
