FINDLAY, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team battled in the losers bracket today, playing Trevecca Nazarene in the second game of the day. The Panthers fell to the Trojans in a hard-fought game, 7-6.
Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) led the way with four runs batted in and two hits, including a double.
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and
Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) each added two hits in the game. Stevens snagged a double with Madden grabbing a stolen base.
Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) netted five strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
How It Happened
The Black and Gold got things started in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs. Stevens opened with a double, followed by a single from Madden.
Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Congleton cleared the bases with a three-run double.
With only one out,
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) plated another run off of her triple to center field. A single from
Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.), scored Golden, making it 5-0 at the end of the first inning.
The Panthers added another run in the bottom of the next inning after stringing together three hits, extending their lead to 6-0. The Trojans answered in the top of the third inning with two runs of their own after hitting two singles and a triple.
Trevecca continued to add runs in the top of the fourth innings after two hits and an error, bringing it to 6-4. In the top of the sixth inning, TNU tied it up at 6-all on one hit and three fielding errors.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Downs snagged her first hit but was stranded, pushing the game into extra innings. The Trojans took the lead in the top of the eighth off of a solo home run to left field.
The Panthers had no answer and fell to Trevecca, 7-6. Ohio Dominican moves to 34-20 and 13-9 in the conference. The team awaits their fate on Monday morning with the NCAA Selection Show airing at 10:00 AM.
