ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Ohio Dominican softball team opened the NCAA Division II Tournament Midwest Regional with Saginaw Valley State in Allendale, Michigan this afternoon. The Panthers were defeated by the Cardinals 8-0 in five-innings.
A number of different Panthers saw time in the circle, revealing their depth.
Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) and
Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) each snagged strikeouts in their 2.0 innings pitched.
Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville, Ohio) and
Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Pa.) also made appearances in the circle.
How It Happened
The Cardinals plated single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings, taking a 2-0 lead. They extended their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth off of three hits.
Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) opened the top of the following frame with a walk but was stranded.
SVSU added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take home an 8-0 five-inning win in the opening game of the regional.
