Softball Gears Up For G-MAC Tourney On Wednesday Afternoon

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The back-to-back Conference Tournament Champions, the Ohio Dominican softball team, gears up for yet another Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament starting on Wednesday afternoon (May 3) in Findlay, Ohio.

The Panthers grabbed the number one seed after ending with a 20-4 record in the G-MAC and snagging their second Regular Season Title since joining the conference in the 2017-18 school year. The Black and Gold will take on Tiffin University in the opening round.

About The Black And Gold

As a team, ODU has the second highest batting average in the league at .314 and the second most hits with 444. The team turns the most double plays with 20 this season and outscores opponents 254-194.

Senior Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) leads the team with a .400 batting average. Downs leads the conference with 20 doubles and 51 runs batted in this season. The senior has recorded seven home runs and six stolen bases.

Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) follows Downs with a .375 batting average. The sophomore leads the team with 66 hits and has nine doubles, two triples, and a home run. Golden adds eight stolen bases and 18 RBIs.

Juniors Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) are each batting above .350 and have 60+ hits on the year. Stevens is second on the team with 12 doubles and Madden leads the team with 30 stolen bases.

In the circle, freshman Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) has recorded a 20-5 record with five shutouts and a save. Jacobs netted a 1.86 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 162.0 innings pitched. Senior Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) tallied a 10-8 mark on the rubber with a 3.57 ERA. Smodilla adds 63 strikeouts in 123.2 innings pitched.

About The Opponent

The Black and Gold face off against Tiffin University in the opening round of the tournament. In the regular season, the Panthers swept the Dragons in two shutout games, 4-0 and 3-0 at the end of March. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM on Anderson Field.
