Panthers Prep for Conference Championships at Walsh, Set Three Records

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - With one week left before the 2023 Great Midwest Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Ohio Dominican Panthers outdoor track and field team had their final prep with an appearance at the Walsh Tune-Up on Thursday (April 27). 

Three ODU records fell on the women's side with 14 top ten finishes overall. 

MEN

Eugene Boahen brought home three top five finishes on the day in the 100, 200 and 4x100 meters. He combined with Manny Codjoe (Bolingbrook, Illinois), Ismael Obas (Columbus, Ohio) and Benjamin Seely (Chesterton, Indiana) won the 4x100 relay with a time of 42.33 seconds. He was second in the 200 meters (22.05 seconds) and third in the 100 meters (10.89 seconds). Codjoe later ran in the 200 meters with a 22nd place run at 23.09 seconds. 

With the 4x100 relay, Obas was top ten in two other events - including a personal best. In the long jump, he maxed out at 6.11 meters for sixth place overall. He was eighth in the 100 meters with a 11.11 second PR. 

Owen Wilhelm (Sunbury, Ohio) ended seventh overall in the high jump with an outdoor season-high 1.90 meters. 

Codjoe and Seely rounded out the Panthers in the 100 meters with times of 11.48 and 11.69 seconds, respectively.  

Aly Diaby added two more top ten finishes in the 200 and 400 meters. He set a PR of 22.37 seconds in the 200 meters in a ninth place effort. In the 400, he crossed the line in sixth place with a time of 50.63 seconds. 

Marcus Steele (Columbus, Ohio) hit a PR mark of 1:56.28 in the 800 meters, finishing seventh overall. Jacob Krous (Galena, Ohio) ran a PR of 1:59.28 in 25th place with Landon Latham (Westland, Michigan) tallying an outdoor season best of 2:08.07. 

Tyler Hampton ended with a pair of 16th place finishes in the discus throw and shot put. He reached a PR of 34.72 meters in the discus and had a best throw of 11.32 meters in the shot put. 

Jaivien Steele (Cleveland, Ohio) ran in the 200 and 400 meter races. He was 20th in the 400 meters with a 53.36 second run and 26th in the 200 meters with a 23.32 second final run.

Blake Wilson (Medina, Ohio) was 21st in the 400 meter run, a 53.48 second run for the Panthers. 

Two of the three Panthers in the 1500 meters matched personal bests. Ethan Sinning (Tipp City, Ohio) hit 4:17.15, a PR in 25th place. Merrick Shorter (Dublin, Ohio) stopped the watch at 4:27.18 in 32nd place. Dylan Taylor (Tipp City, Ohio) was the second PR mark with 4:34.77 in the race. 

WOMEN

Brooke Armbrust (Grove City, Ohio) followed up her last performance with two individual school records at Walsh. She broke her own 100 meter record with a 12.01 second run, finishing second. In the 200 meters, she shattered the previous record of 25.50 seconds with a 24.88 second run to win the event. 

Armbrust, G'nae Morrison (San Antonio, Texas), Molly Van Horn (Granville, Ohio) and Kassydee Owens (Harlan, Kentucky) combined to set the ODU record in the 4x100 relay with a 48.90 second time. The quartet finished second as a team in the overall race. 

Van Horn set personal records in the 200 meters and 400 meters with a pair of top five finishes. She was second in the 400 at 58.56 seconds and was fourth in the 200 meters at 25.75 seconds. 

Morrison tallied an 11th place 100 meter run finish after a time of 12.93 seconds. Later in the 200 meters, she made a 27.81 second pass for 22nd place. 

Nikane Ambos (Wapakoneta, Ohio) set a 200 meter PR of 27.44 seconds in 17th place and followed that with a 16th place in the 400 meters, timing out at 1:03.26. 

On top of her 4x100 relay record, Owens tallied personal records in the 200 and 400 meters. She was seventh overall in the 400 meters (1:00.67) and 18th in the 200 meters (27.45 seconds). 

Three Panthers ran in the 1500 meter race and hit best marks. Jeralyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) was the fastest Panther with a 5:26.50. Jaclyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) followed in the pack with a 5:39.71 time. Kylee Henry (Circleville, Ohio) finished right with Strawn at 5:39.74.

Kelsey Shaffer (Spencerville, Ohio) topped out at 4.11 meters in the long jump in 19th place. 

Grace Pitt ran a 1:07.10 time in the 400 meters, reaching a personal best mark.

Four Panthers competed in the shot put with three personal bests reached. Ashley Chimielewski (Roscommon, Mich.) was 13th overall with a 9.11 meter best toss. Jadelyn McNerney (Springboro, Ohio) ended one spot behind with a 9.04 meter throw. Marie Pascaline Ndayishimye hit 8.50 meters on her best attempt in 16th place. Bailey Cummings ( ) made her debut in the shot put with a 6.60 meter attempt. 

Ndayishimye hit a personal best with a 21.59 meter throw of the discus. 

The Panthers will head to Ashland, Ohio for the 2023 Great Midwest Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week. Action begins on Wednesday (May 3) and runs through Friday (May 5).
