NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Ohio Dominican softball team traveled south to the Music City to take on Trevecca Nazarene University. The Panthers swept the Trojans 6-3 in the first game and 11-8 in the second game.
McKenna Conley (Mt. Orab, Ohio) and
Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) led the way for the Black and Gold with four hits and two homeruns apiece. Conley snagged six runs batted in, two doubles, and a stolen base. Downs added three RBIs and accounted for two runs.
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) and
Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) each collected homeruns as well, giving the Panthers a team total of six on the day.
Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) picked up another win and her first save in the circle while grabbing five strikeouts.
Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Ga.) gathered her first win of the season.
Game One
The Trojans got on the board first on the bottom of the opening frame after a two-run homerun. The Panthers answered in the top of the third after Conley doubled, stole third, and scored on an error, making it 2-1.
The Black and Gold took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning with a two-run homerun from Downs. Trevecca tied it up in the bottom of the frame after two walks and a single.
In their final at bat, ODU rallied, netting consecutive singles from
Emily Holland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) and Golden. With two outs, Congleton retook the lead for the Panthers with a three-run homerun over the left center fence. TNU had no answer giving ODU a game one win.
Game Two
Similar to game one, Trevecca opened the scoring first in the bottom of the first inning collecting three runs off of two hits and an error. Ohio Dominican plated five runs in the top of the next inning with a lead-off solo homerun from Downs, a single from
Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio), a two-run homerun from Conley, and a solo homerun from Golden.
The Trojans homered in the bottom of the frame to bring the score within one, 5-4. TNU continued to add runs in the bottom of the third with a two-run shot to left center and a RBI double, making it 7-5.
Conley snagged her second homerun of the game in the top of the fourth inning to even up the score at 7-all. An RBI single from
Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) gave ODU an 8-7 lead. Once again, the Trojans tied it up with a solo homerun to right field.
Ohio Dominican created some space in the top of the fifth inning after a double form Conley drove in two more runs, bringing it to 10-8. Stevens added another RBI single in the top of the seventh to make it 11-8, completing the sweep for the Panthers.
