The Black And Gold Secure A Spot In Conference Tournament With Wins At KWC

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Ohio Dominican softball team wrapped up their road schedule today at Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Black and Gold swept the Purple Panthers 3-2 and 14-2 to secure a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament in May.
 
Junior Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the way with six hits and added six stolen bases. Following her was Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) with five hits, two being doubles, and two stolen bases. Senior Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ohio) grabbed four runs batted in and hit three doubles on the day. The Black and Gold collected a combined 27 hits between the two games.
 
In the circle, Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) netted another win and retired six batters. The freshman recorded a 2.00 ERA in 7.0 innings pitched.
 
Game One
 
The Panthers opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Golden doubled then advanced to third off of a single from Madden. Downs brought them around with a double of her own, taking a 2-0 lead. KWC matched the score in the bottom of the frame after collected four hits.
 
ODU registered five hits before retaking the lead in the top off the fifth off two hits and an error, making it 3-2. KWC had no answer resulting in a win for Ohio Dominican.
 
Game Two
 
Once again, the Black and Gold struck first in the opening frame, plating three runs off of three hits and an error. An inning later, ODU pushed their lead to 4-0 with an RBI double form Golden.
 
Ky. Wesleyan added two runs in the bottom of the second, cutting their deficit in half with a double and two singles. The Panthers broke it open in the top of the third scoring eight runs after doubles from Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) and Downs, and a triple from Makaila Moses (Lancaster, Ohio).
 
During the Panthers' next at bat, Madden notched an RBI double with Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.) netting an RBI single to extend their lead to 14-2. Without a retaliation from KWC, ODU took the second game 14-2 in five innings.

Ohio Dominican returns home next weekend to close out their regular season schedule with Cedarville University and Hillsdale College.
