Panthers Open Outdoor Season at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers outdoor track and field team opened the 2023 season at the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open on Saturday (March 25). 

The Panthers set 14 personal bests in action in a day that saw sun, wind, rain and everything else. Both teams finished 16th as a team with the men scoring eight points and the women with five. 

MEN

Owen Wilhelm (Sunbury, Ohio) began his outdoor season with a second place finish in the high jump. He topped out at 1.80 meters as he scored eight points for the team. 

For the 400 meter run, eight Panthers saw the track. Aly Diaby had the best finish of the team with a 52.82 second time in 14th place. Marcus Steele was second of the Panthers with a time of 54.22 seconds. Jaivien Steele (Cleveland, Ohio) tallied a personal best in the outdoor event of 55.13 seconds. Manny Codjoe (Bolingbrook, Illinois) and Blake Wilson were within three places in the finishing order as Codjoe ran a 55.69 and Wilson was at 56.04 seconds. Eugene Boahen timed out at 58.45 seconds while Ismael Obas (Columbus, Ohio) and Benjamin Seely (Chesterton, Indiana) set personal bests in the outdoor realm. Obas had a time of 59.26 seconds while Seely was at 1:01.49. 

Four of the six Panther runners in the 1500 meters had personal bests. Jacob Krous (Galena, Ohio) paced the Panthers with a 17th place time of 4:23.82. Merrick Shorter (Dublin, Ohio) reached a PR of 4:29.88 as the second place for ODU. Ethan Sinning (Tipp City, Ohio) ended with a final time of 4:34.23. Landon Latham (Westland, Michigan)Edward Devaney (Lexington, Ohio) and Dylan Taylor (Tipp City, Ohio) all hit PR times. Latham (4:55.25) and Devaney (4:55.27) were nearly even with Taylor finishing at 5:04.19. 

Making their discus throw debuts, Tyler Hampton got a 32.02 meter throw while Henry Pierce finished at a best of 27.04 meters.

WOMEN

Molly Van Horn (Granville, Ohio) finished fourth overall in the 400 meter run, clocking in at 1:02.43 in her season debut and earning the Panthers five points. Kassydee Owens (Harlan, Kentucky) ended in 16th place, crossing the line at 1:06.90. Nikane Ambos (Wapakoneta, Ohio) and Brooke Armbrust (Grove City, Ohio) both set an outdoor PR in the 400 with times of 1:08.95 and 1:11.05, respectively. 

Three Panthers ran in the 1500 meter event at Cedarville. Kylee Henry (Circleville, Ohio) set a personal best with a 5:57.79 time. Jeralyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) was right behind Henry at 5:58.00 and Jaclyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) followed with a time of 6:10.51 overall. 

In the shot put, Marie Pascaline Ndayshimye hit an outdoor best of 9.02 meters while Jadelyn McNerney (Springboro, Ohio) reached an overall personal best with a best throw of 8.95 meters. 

The Panthers will return to action on Saturday (April 1) at the Tiffelberg Open.
