Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team finished out the final road swing of the season in the Music City on Saturday (Feb. 4) against the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans.
In a battle that was on the low-scoring side, Trevecca Nazarene got the best of the Panthers 51-44.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) led the Panthers with ten points scored, the only ODU player in double figures. Jones earned most of his points at the free throw line as he was six-of-eight overall. He added two field goal makes with four rebounds and two steals.
- Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) made a pair of threes in an eight-point effort. He grabbed three rebounds and was tied for the team lead in assists with a pair of dimes.
- Keshawn Heard (Newark, Ohio) led all players in the game with nine rebounds, setting a career-high. He scored all five of his points in the second half.
- Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) finished with a stat line of six points and six rebounds, with three field goals made.
- Kevin James (Massillon, Ohio) gave the Panthers five points, four rebounds and two steals off the bench in 23 minutes.
- Caleb Laurich (Akron, Ohio) blocked two shots in 11 minutes with three points and two rebounds.
- The Panthers shot 28.3% from the field, making 15-of-53 field goals to outshoot the Trojans 28.1% (16-57).
- ODU won the categories of free throw % (68.8%-56.5%), assists (8-6) and steals (6-2).
- Trevecca scored 19 points in the first half, the best defensive half of the year and the first time since February 7, 2020 against Wright St.-Lake, where an opponent scored under 20 points in a half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ohio Dominican opened the scoring on a Szul jumper less than 90 seconds in before Trevecca answered right back with a jumper to tie the game at two. Two free throws by Jones gave Ohio Dominican back the 4-2 at the 16:21 mark.
- After Trevecca cut ODU's lead to 4-3, ODU went on a 6-0 run and an overall 13-5 run to take a 17-9 lead with 6:03 left. James scored his five points in that span while Jones added four points.
- Trevecca scored eight of the next ten points to close the gap to 19-17 in the final two minutes. Ohio Dominican took a 21-19 lead into halftime.
- To open the second half, Ohio Dominican started with a 9-2 flurry over the first four minutes to lead 30-21.
- The Trojans scored 11 straight points in two minutes, taking a 32-30 advantage with 13:24 to go.
- Ethan Haynes (Florence, Kentucky) and Marks hit back-to-back threes as the Panthers took back the lead, 36-32 nearing the under-12 media timeout.
- Trevecca closed the gap to 36-35 before Heard and Marcus Johnson (Columbus, Ohio) battled back with a 5-0 run for a 41-35 lead with 8:17 left on the clock.
- Following a 44-40 Panther lead, the Trojans ended the game on an 11-0 run as Trevecca took the 45-44 lead with 2:37 to go. Trevecca Nazarene won the game 51-44

The Panthers will play three of the next five games at home, beginning a three-game homestand on Thursday (Feb. 9) against Malone at 7:30 PM.
