COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team returns to the court after the Holidays. The Panthers will take on regional foe, University of Indianapolis, inside Nicoson Hall this weekend.
About Ohio Dominican
The Black and Gold enter Saturday with a 3-7 mark on the season after going 1-2 over the week before Christmas. That week, the Panthers fell to Central State, 66-59, and Dayton, 83-64, but defeated West Liberty, 78-65.
Senior
Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) averaged 21.3 points per game over the three games and 17.8 points per game for the season. She recorded a season high of 28 points against the Hilltoppers and became the NCAA Division II Era All-Time leading scorer at Ohio Dominican, bringing her career total to 1,454 points.
The other Panther averaging double-digit points is
La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 10.3. Hill averaged 11.0 points per game over the three games including an 18-point performance against the Flyers on Sunday. The freshman point guard leads the Black and Gold in assists per game, averaging 2.9, and steals per game, averaging 2.3.
Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) is ODU's top rebounding, grabbing 4.2 boards per game. The forward averages 8.8 points per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the field. Fellow freshman,
Nelia Guice (Westerville, Ohio), follows Shackleford with 3.8 rebounds per game and 5.1 points per game.
Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) averages 6.6 points per game and 2.3 assists per game.
About Indianapolis
The Greyhounds enter Saturday afternoon with a 5-5 record on the year and a 3-2 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Before the break, UIndy fell three consecutive times, including twice on their home court, to bring their home record to 3-2.
Leading the way for the Hounds is Elana Wells. Wells averages 16.0 points per game and 4.5 assists per game. Following her is Liv Becker with 15.1 points per game. Becker is shooting a team high of 40.8 percent from behind the arc. On the rebounding end, Patricia Chikamba averages 8.4 rebounds while Idalis Ortiz averages 6.4 rebounds per game.
As a team, Indianapolis averages 73.4 points per game while their opponents average 74.8 points per game. They are shooting 39.8 percent from the field, 26.4 percent from behind the arc, and 71.2 percent from the charity stripe. They average 41.9 rebounds per game and 12.6 assists per game.
During Ohio Dominican's NCAA Division II Era, the two have met three times. The Greyhounds defeated the Panthers in the first meeting during the 2014-15 season, 77-72. Since then, the Black and Gold have been undefeated, beating the Crimson and Grey 77-72 during the 2015-16 season and 80-73 in the 2022-23 season, both in Columbus.
